The hole is there for a reason. It is not a mistake. It is not due to a last minute design change. It's not supposed to have anything in it on the coupe. Why is it there? Well, thanks to our friend, Harlan Charles, we now know that it is for a cooling line bracket that is used only on the convertible. Yes, it's simply where the bracket attaches to the valve cover. Cheers!
Another slightly newer thread is on the same topic. Two guys say theirs looks just like yours. Maybe it is the way it should be? My Harley has two threaded holes in the transfer case. Looks like something is missing. Turns out, during engine build mfg a positioning tool is attached using the threads. Does look pretty weird for sure.
One of 2 things is my bet. It is a pre-production only EVAP line mounting bracket or a California EVAP line mounting bracket. Your guess?
Hmm, your pic is different than the rest several ways! Where is it from?
It has two white braces where the C8 with or without the engine appearance kit are black! Also that questioned threaded hole is holding a bracket with "open hose fittings" the other pics don't have. Where are the hoses? So the threaded hole is to hold a hose fitting bracket BUT for what version on the C8??

Photo is of a pre production display car with body panels removed. Specifically at Laguna Seca / Weathertech Raceway back in August 2019
Funny, after having placed my hold-a-spot order for my 2014 C7 in February 2013, right after the C7 launch, the 1st one I saw was an IVER at Laugua Seca in August 2013!
Put a hold-a-spot order on the C8 right after the July 2019 launch BUT many more folks place orders sooner!
