Seems to me:
If the CG of the car is between the two arms the car doesn't fall.
If the CG of the car + lift is outside of the post bases and beyond the capacity of the concrete bolts, the whole lift+car falls.

I think maybe something else was grossly wrong.

If I knew, why would I be asking?? You're the one answering.

If the Cg is way to the rear and it started to droop, it could have slid backwards on the pads and then the whole thing came crashing down.

Rick Conti's Corvette Technician almost did the same thing...notice that he thought you were supposed to use the wrong lift points at first.

Right. If you placed the Porsche where the Camaro is, the Porsche would end up where the C8 did. The guy who operated the lift is looking for work. The posts can actually rip out of the floor.

Based on 60/40 rear bias, I guessed where the CG would be Seems like the wrong locations still wouldn't cause a fall.

Someone like you adjusted the lift arms.

Yes, it would...and it gets even worse when you take the front wheels off the car.

You still aren't getting it, look at this picture from the video, the arm supporting the front is almost straight out from the lift and the rear one is at about a 45 degree angle all extended. It puts WAY too much weight away from the center of the lift. Cg is one thing, where it is in relation to the center of the lift is the problem.

Looks like the *** end tipped off the lift when the CG shifted after removing the front wheels.

Back in 2001 or so, there was a Boxster at a shop that suffered the same fate when a front wheel was removed. At my Air Force Base auto hobby shop, they have a photo next to their two-post lifts, showing an F-150 that fell off backwards when it was lifted to its maximum height. Before lifting any vehicle, you have to get a shop person to check your lift points before lifting.

Shop floor looks too dirty to be a GM dealer. I'm still not convinced.

Default Hmm?

Our plan is to have aftermarket wheels installed. With our C7, we bought the wheels from a Forum vendor. HRE direct shipped them to us. We took them to a Discount Tire to have them mounted. The manager assured us his crew was up to the task. Left them and returned later. And they were. I recall when we bought new tires same Discount Tire, they jacked each corner one at a time. Put a jack stand under each as they went. Until all four corners were on jack stands. Looking at this, I dunno? Maybe we get snowflakes like them or not? Or stay with the standard OEMs. I don't have enough years left to spend so many on a accident like this.

Man, that sucks. Glad nobody got hurt in that fiasco.

The poor owner will get to relive the grief anew in about a week when the CCE posts a new thread about it, thinking it's news.

So this is the GM certified service centre we were talking about not long ago? The GM certified workshop you are forced to use for frame repairs as they are specially trained?

Yet they can't even keep a C8 up on a lift without it falling off. Glad they are certified imagine if they were not.
