Strange Mirror Issue
Car was parked for 20 minutes, drivers mirror facing the sun. It was far away from other cars. Not a scratch on the car or mirror! But on the drive home, this appeared!
Brite spot in lower pic is flash, which was the best way to view. Top also made with flash but at an angle. Not a scratch on the mirror (or car.) The closer I looked it appears to perhaps be an etched electrical grid possibly for auto dimming? It's only 80 F outside.
Anyone see anything like this? Will send pic to the dealer! It's not a plastic film on the mirror but note the gold line around the mirror- that is not on the passenger side mirror.

Could those be the heating elements? Maybe they heated up and will go away once cooled?

Been looking at info re auto dimming and found this:
"The auto dimming technology is called electrochromics, which applies electricity in order to tint glass through a low-voltage power supply. The electricity moves through an electrochromic gel placed between two pieces of glass during manufacturing, which have been treated with an electrically conductive coating. A light sensor detects glare and works with a microprocessor sends the appropriate charge through an electrochromic gel."
If it's auto dimming, looks like my gel is "defective." Sent a pic to the service manager at the dealer. GM should pay to have whatever fixed! Note, it's cooled down in the garage for 1+ hours and still the same.

I would think it's the dimming, and not the heating. But that certainly is odd. I'd bet (and hope!) no one else has that happen.
Matter of fact, I can't recall in the last three gens seeing something like that. This is a first as far as I know, Jerry. But it's one you'd rather live without even if covered by warranty. Tell us how it turns out.

They have a great Corvette tech and have no problems with him replacing.

Dealer got a new mirror and installed today.
Took ~10 minutes! Pulled the mirror to one side, used a wood stick to loosen a few clips, was able to reach in get the others and remove the defective mirror.
Just two plugs to reattach and press the mirror back!
Both the great Corvette Tech and Service Manager said they had see them partially go but after many miles NOT when new! All done on GM's dime! Back next week for an alignment to my specs!

Jerry, Good News! Glad to read it!
Now tell us: was it the heating element that went or the auto-dimming?

It was the auto-dimming. There is a gel that darkens when activated by a small electrical current and that electrical etched path was in the gel. The gel was apparently defective for whatever reason.
