Default Doing my own engine lighting package.

I saw where a fellow on here was selling the two led lights that go with the engine appearance package and I asked him about what it would take to buy the parts from GM and do it myself. We didn’t get the engine appearance package because we don’t care for carbon fiber and spending $1,000 for something we didn’t want.

So I looked up the part numbers for the lights and a new wiring harness to replace. A new harness has to be installed that has the wiring for the lights. You have to order the correct harness. Depends if you have the rear vision camera or not, I have the mirror camera.

I sourced the screw clips that go into the top of the hatch from my local Chevy dealer. They are just square license plate mount screw holders.
I went to my local auto parts store and got some nice screws as well.
I had to drop the rear headliner between the top and the rear glass. Just held up with pop clips.

I’m in the process of undoing the original harness and running the new one and the hard part will be done. I’ll keep y’all updated in a bit when I finish up.

I just had a LED light kit professionally installed last week, and I'm really happy with it.

These are the only pics I have so far, but at least you can get an idea of what it looks like. I can pick any color I want via an app on my phone. They also installed a "kill switch" tucked underneath the steering column, right next to the OBD port, so it will never drain off the battery when the car is off.

if it turns on when interior lights turn on...you would think you could tap into that interior light ?

There are so many of us that wanted the lights but did not want the CF pieces. Thanks for documenting this. Looking forward to see how this works out for you.

Well getting a bit more along!
got the driver side panel off. Disconnected the two plugs and about to fish the harness out of the cabin to the engine compartment.

About to fish the cabin harness through to the engine compartment. I had to unscrew a few of these fasteners above the window on the engine compartment side to be able to lift it up a bit so the harness can come through.

The hard part for me at the moment is looking how to unplug the harness clip from the underside of the camera on the hatch!
I’ll do some research real quick and get back with y’all. I’m about 80% plus done besides the camera plug and putting it back together!

Got the harness all out minus the camera clip.
There is a very large grommet that has to be fished through to the engine compartment side. I really had to finagle it through, but it’s easily doable with some effort.

I’m at a stop. Can’t figure out how the camera housing comes off to undo the plug. I pulled all the wiring through to the cabin and ran it and plugged it all in and ran the wiring for the defrosters under the hatch. All I like is figuring out the camera housing and putting the interior back together. It has been a pretty easy job. If you are mechanically inclined and don’t mind some odd angles and stuff it’s not bad at all.
I’ll update all tomorrow. Thanks for your interest.

theres another posting going on and they mention adhesive tape and some tabs ...?

from the other posting
"For the coupe, masking tape all around the border. Take a plastic trim tool and pop it off gently to disengage the retainers holding it down. Camera has two screws holding it and the bracket to the trim piece."

Just got some info from one of my C8 Facebook groups on how to get it off. It pries from the top with some plastic trim tools. I’ll get it off in a bit after I eat something and update the thread.

Just finished up! Y’all that it cost me was less than $150 with factory parts and a couple hours of my time! Here’s the tools I used and the fasteners. I feel quite accomplished right now!
