Default Front Grill Mesh Screen

Black Coupe 3LT, Z51
I am looking for the thread discussing the C8 Corvette front grill screen. Although I am in Eastern Washington and probably won't drive until Spring.
would like to hear about positive and negative reviews on adding Mesh screens to protect radiators. My black coupe already has multiple dings and a bent fin. Have you added the passenger grill screen as well?

Don't leave home without them. Radiator cores are exposed . If Z51 side vents should get screens.

Most of the screens seem to cost $89-$119, does anybody have a recommendation ? I will probably have a body shop install it, So I assume that will be probably another $100.00. If you are willing to pay more this seems to be the easiest grill mesh installation that I have seen. Has anybody used it ?

Excellent information by all - I appreciate it. I went with Custom Car Grills.com and order all four pieces. I look forward to adding the intercooler screen when one is offered.

I wonder why even after all of the tens upon tens of thousands of test miles, GM engineers decided these were unnecessary?

Well, if you ever saw one of the engineers, you would know.

Custom Car Grills here. Did all four sections in the front grill. It wasn't quick or very easy, but I am glad it's done for the protection and much improved appearance. Try and spot the zip ties. Outboard section are all hidden.

They probably thought it'd be a good idea to have them, but management probably shot the idea down because the base model would be $60,000 instead of $59,995, and they promised it'd be under $60k.

Think of the mesh like PPF for your bumper. Some don't care about rock chips in paint, some do.

Because of the convenience of outside installation, I'd be willing to consider this option--even though it's a lot more expensive--but I'm concerned that it doesn't entirely cover the side radiators (there's a horizontal gap in the middle between the two pieces). Also, there's nothing similar (yet, anyway) to protect the two smaller areas toward the center of the car. I'll want those protected too, so it kind of makes sense for me to bite the bullet, disassemble the bumper, and install all four screens on the inside at the same time.

That way, I'll also retain use of the frunk opener button, which these outer screens block... unless your fingers are long enough to reach through the unprotected gap. YMMV

Doubt the Museum will install as this is NOT a GM option they are trained to do. Not all that simple.

This is a detailed 9 page Pic/Caption PDF of my install http://netwelding.com/CF_Splitter.pdf
(Happens to include a number of page of my Splitter install after the 9. Did both at the same time having the front lifted NOT rocket science but not easy like installing Splash Guards.)

Only downside is time and small cost. I discuss my decision to install in the intro: "Had added similar to my C6 after the Chevy Service Manager said GM would not cover the repair of the hole in the AC Condenser in my 6-month old Vette as it “could have been caused by a rock.” After examining the failed condenser, I proved it was a manufacturing defect and was reimbursed the $800 replacement cost. Did not want to take a chance on the C8 as the condensers are susceptible to bugs, rocks and debris. Was initially concerned I would not be able to use a vaccum to clean bugs, but two comments made me realize the mesh would help:
Russ M05 noted: Only small bugs can go through the small mesh and can’t damage the AC condenser fins. That the bugs hitting the mesh and are either stopped or their velocity reduced so less likely to imbed in the AC condenser fins and will drop to the bottom.
Phil1098 noted bugs can be washed away with a water stream. Used the same black powder coated aluminum mesh from Custom Car Gills others have installed."

As far as "needing on the C8" and why GM didn't include has been and issue with all cars- NOT just the C8. This is pic of my C6 where I installed an aftermarket stainless steel AC Condenser Protector. GM also has to worry about folks not cleaning leaves etc and reducing cooling capacity. If living in the desert the added mesh could be an issue.

It's an issue with all cars. GM designs for max cooling and when protecting mesh etc is added have to be sure leaves etc are removed. Has been available for many cars in the aftermarket for years. This is one I added to me C6.

It looks like all the behind the grille style meshes use ties to hold on. Is there anything that you could easily mount the screen to behind the grille so that you wouldn't need the zip ties? I know it's probably a minor concern as they're pretty much invisible.
