Default Daytona 500

Restarting lap 30, chevy in top 5. Lots of wrecks and delays due to nasty cold front that pushed through today. Nice seeing the C8 pace car. Already now 3rd caution.

I used to be a big fan and hit the races. Today I’m really just watching for the pace car

They just passed the half-way mark so if it rains again the race is official.

It was seeing something besides a Toyota pacing the race. The Corvette looked good. Now if only I had stayed at the race, looking at the radar it didn't look possible....but watched it from the couch.

If the caution had come out two seconds later the #9 Chevy would have been the winner. Funny how the winner actually caused the final wreck

Nascar (and a few others) is not realistic. I'm sorry, but if a collection of members here with the same performance build options, I'd dare say that if they were leaving Jacksonville on I10, that there wouldn't be inches between them as they crossed the border on their way to Alabama. The rules are such to ensure that condition so a real winner doesn't happen enabling a made for TV event. If that's what you like and would like to participate (for free), just try driving to Jones Beach (NY) on a summer weekend.

Yeah, I was just looking for the pace car too. And the chevy facades.

I have to admit I am not a fan of NASCAR at all. I find it to be very boring .

The Daytona 500 is just 490 plus laps and then if your lucky and miss the BIG ONE you have a chance to win the race.

Skill has little to do as all these drivers have great skill in getting these large boxes on 4 wheels safely around a track at 200..mph

Now add the infield section of the track into the race and suddenly that boring 500 miles become much more entertaining and the DRIVERS SKILL and not the luck of missing the BIG one determines the race winner.

I love IMSA and go to every Rolex 24 and 12 hour's of Sebring.

That is REAL racing where skill and vehicle reliability determine the race winner. Plus a little rain does not stop the race.

Nascar Could bring in many more fans by simply adding the infield road course to the 500 and this ridiculous style of racing where it's impossible to pass without the help of other drivers and the need to push the car infant of you at 200mph to have a chance to pass would be over and true driver skill and proper vehicle setup would determine the race..

Bottom line NASCAR could fix the racing by adding the raod course at many of their races and could eliminate the need for GIMMICKS such as stages to try to entertain the fans..

Real racing does not require GIMMICKS to make race entertaining.

Are you aware NASCAR does in fact run the road course at Daytona? They ran it once this year already for the Busch Clash. They run it again for their next points race as well.

Yes I am aware and it seems to be a Fan favorite.

While waiting for the rain to stop Fox rebroadcast the previous Daytona race where the infield was used and it was so much more entertaining that the 500 format.

Again Nascar has come up with all these gimmicks to keep the fans from complete and total boredom none of which would be needed if the race itself was entertaining.

I only been to a couple of Nascar event Daytona 500 and Daytona 400 night race..

In both events I found that the racing to be boring as there was no infield used and it was basically mile after mile of car rushing by bumper to bumper at 200 mph with no separation or way to determine if one or more cars were performing better than the rest of 43 car field..

Truly boring .

Also the fan base from IMSA to Nascar is as different as the type of cars raced in each series.

Being a big Corvette and Ferrari fan it's easy to feel closer to the type vehicle raced in IMSA than Nascar which are all exactly the same with just a bunch of stickers to differentiate a TOYOTA CAMRY from Chevrolet Camero or Ford Mustang.

Non of those cars are even remotely close to the car that they are supposed to represent on the track.

Yes I know the C8R is highly modified but it's much closer to what is raced on Sunday and we buy on Monday than anything Nascar has to offer.

The GTD cars are very similar to what is sold off show room floors.

Again totally different series of racing and TOTALLY different fan base..

I go to the Corvette corral or Ferrari corral and the fan base if loyal fan of that make of vehicle as they can relate to what is on the track being raced.

The C8 is a Corvette although highly modified and the Ferrari is a Ferrari although highly modified.

In fact it's funny that the race cars actually have the same or less HP than the street going versions of the cars on track.

Plus there is technical exchanges between IMSA cars and their street counter parts.

Not seeing any tech transfer from the sticker camry to street camry.

When the last time you saw a V8 Camry?

I could see why some Nascar fans have to drink heavily to keep from total and complete boredom of the racing on track

7 road course cup events this year plus the clash was on a road course. Add in a dirt track event. I guess you will be watching on Sunday when the drivers line up on the Daytona road course - rain or shine.

NASCAR = a bunch of crashes that one of the last cars running gets a trophy for at some point. Once in a while they get lucky and have a decent race... mostly on the road courses. But it is not often. Now the Daytona IMSA 24 is a whole other ball game.

I had the "best seat in the house" once. My boss had worked his way up over many decades and had a dozen seats on the start finish line 10 rows up. He invited some of us as guests with him. It was very interesting for the first 15-30 minutes or so. Then I realized that I saw significantly less than what is available on TV. A few seconds in front and a long time out of view. Aside from witnessing the sound and overview as reference material, I never felt the need to return. Of course the accidents are in the turns and not the straight by the s/f line which is the reason 99.9% go in the first place - so I was informed by every attendee I talked to. I can see that for free on I75 south of Ocala. Coincidentally, that's where big daddy's museum is located.
