Default Front License Plate .. to bracket or not?

For those who live in states where a front plate is required....................

Did your car come with the bracket or did you have to order it extra?

For those not using the bracket .. .. Did you remove that center section and bend your plate slightly to use the built in spot?
If you did use that spot were the hole already threaded, or you did you use self tappers or some other method of attachement?

Pictures please .. especially those who used the "bent plate" method. ..

Go ahead and obscure your actual plate number if there are any security concerns with publishing your plate on the 'net... I know I would.

TIA

You don't live in a police state like this **** hole. I've been pulled over for it enough I thought I just don't need the grief. Illinois sucks BTW.

Here's a site that shows what it would look like: https://www.carscoops.com/2020/01/th...-plate-holder/

There's some threads here on the same thing with an actual plate, but I think the picture there can give an idea.

I did the bent plate version as the bracket makes the car look like Hitler. There are four raised thicker square pads for plate screws that I marked with a sharpie and then drilled a pilot hole with a small bit (1/8"?) Then just used standard coarse thread license plate screws.

Not a great picture, sorry.

I'm in Virginia and they require a front plate but it's no way that I'm installing it. I haven't had one on most of my vehicles. Worse case scenario is a something like a $35 ticket and if you just keep the plate in the car and tell them that you didn't have the screws or something, they probably would never give you a ticket at all. It just takes away from the looks of the car.

My car came with the raised bracket but I used the built in spot that isn't officially recommended for the license plate.

Mine came with the bracket (at no additional cost thanks to living in a front plate required state).

I've yet to install anything on the front end, but if I ever do I will start with the 'bent' plate solution.

I did this install too, in exactly the same way, it is the best solution. Even if you don't get a ticket, getting pulled over isn't the greatest, I was recently pulled over and didnt get any ticket and then had to get up to speed and merge into a busy freeway at night, that was treacherous, and since I was pulled over on a rough dirt side shoulder something hit the underside of the car VERY hard, not sure if there was frame or other damage but it definitely ripped a large chunk of aero off.

The bent plate install is hardly noticeable at normal viewing angles given that it is low to the ground and tilted backward under the nose. The peace of mind of eliminating a major reason for them to pull me over is a very nice feeling.

Thanx for the replies so far....

I like the bent plate mount for a number a reasons but was especially curious about whether or not the holes came pre tapped.

With the bent plate, nothing looks added on.except the plate itself AND Police using laser are taught to aim for the plate as the largest flat plane on the car to reflect the signal. With it being both bent and angled down, .. no good reflective surface! ...

For those with the added bracket, .. .. easily removable? I'm now concerned that since I live in a "front plate state" it will come with the bracket and be hard to remove. ..

I used the bent plate method with a tinted cover. Holes were already drilled.

Talk to your dealer and tell him you don't want it installed during PDI. My dealer left mine in a bag in the trunk.
My holes weren't pre-drilled but it is no big deal to drill some pilot holes and install the screws to hold the plate.

My bracket was in the trunk. I put the bracket on and it looked horrible. I also thought it had potential to rub on the paint behind it, so I went with the bent plate method. If the bracket is already installed it’s no big deal, 60 seconds to remove it. I too drilled pilot holes in the “pads” which are located under the aero plate cover and align perfectly with the holes in the license plate. I just used regular license plate screws, it’s on there tight. I put the plate in a black silicone license plate frame/holder as well (front and back of car).

I didn't use it, but I can tell you it's beyond simple and easily removeable. They provide you with some fittings that snap into place for the bracket (holes are already there for the fittings) and you simply run the two fastening bolts into the fittings. Then you mount the plate to the bracket with normal screws. If you don't like it you remove the plate screws and the two attachment bolts and the whole thing comes off. At that point you can bolt on the bent plate or snap the cover back on and run no front plate, no harm, no foul.

I went with the bent plate. It’s starting to grow on me since it breaks up the expanse of black on the front.

SO.... is there space to put your hand behind the facia so that you can used nut and bolt, or nylon or do you have to use the bolts directly into the ... plastic?..

That's fine for single application, but what about when you have to change plates? will the holes be wallowed out?
