Default C8 Mag Lug Nuts

I am placing my final order request 2022 C8 (I am #3 on dealer list) for a Hypersonic Gray with the 5 open spoke Carbon Flash-painted aluminum wheels with machined edge. On the Chevrolet Build your Vette website the lug nuts look gray. I was thinking about getting the Wheel lock kit in chrome but believe that it would not look good with the carbon flash. I wonder if it’s even worth spending the $105 for theft preventions?

Thanks for feedback,

Uno

Wheel locks are worthless.

Great color choice! Had I gotten a 2022 it would have been a hard choice between Hypersonic and my 2021 Accelerate Yellow. The lug nuts are a matching chrome. I have a set of the GM locks ready to go as soon as my car arrives; had them on my C7 as well.

They're not gray, just stainless covers over steel lugs. They are fairly shiny, but certainly not chrome. Wheel locks are a whole other discussion, some use them some don't.

If you're going to buy wheel locks, you can get the same McGard locks GM overcharges for at Amazon for $30.

NO. I never use locking lugnuts... on anything. Have you ever seen the damage done when they try to get them off anyway? Let 'em have the tires and wheels; they're insured.

I had the wheel locks. After reading discussions here I decided to remove them. If thieves want your wheels and tires they will get them. More damage done with the locks installed. Thieves know the key is in the car as well, they are likely to break into the car to get the key. Car is insured, no insurance discount for having wheel locks. One less thing to worry about when having the car serviced as well, I’m always forgetting to leave the key out where they can find it.

The lug key will still be in the vehicle somewhere. Now you have a broken window AND missing wheels. At least that was my logic for removing them. I think wheel theft is actually fairly rare. The inclination alarm will sound when they start jacking up the car anyways (2LT and 3LT), but even that won’t deter determined thieves.

Yep equivalent to what GM sells just no logo on package. Have used McGard for years!

I also lock the doors to my home, apparently some folks don't as a professional thief can get in anyway!

SIDEBAR
At 140 ft-lbs C8 torque not so easy to get off without the key. Some years ago bought Gorilla locks for my Truck. Needed to remove a tire to bring and have repaired and the key broke. Read all that stuff about pound a 12 point socket over the lock and it's easy to get it off! Well two destroyed 12 point quality sockets later I finally got it off. Used a 5 lb sledge to pound it over the lock. Was ready to weld a socket on the lock, another approach! Never used Gorilla locks again! May just have been my luck but never have had an issue with McGard. However I also order another key, keep one in the tool bag in the Frunk and another in my tool box.

I have Pewter wheels and when those accessory wheels were installed during PDI the dealer threw in new TPMS sensors and wheel locks at no charge. But the lug nuts are chrome and don't quite match the Pewter wheels.

Now that I have two sets of wheels and lug nuts I'm thinking of having the "spare" base silver wheels and factory lugs powder coated copper color and seeing how that looks on my Zeus Bronze car. I'm aware that installing and removing the lugs will scrape up the powder cost to some extent if not very careful. In any case the solution to your lug nut color issue might be to have them powder coated any color you like.

I have used wheel locks for decades. In the US, Advanced Wheel Locks are the way to go. You would need a long time with power tools to defeat one. Just below them, McGard of Europe (I bought from Amazon UK) Has a set that has an aluminum ring that foils hammered socket attempts pretty well. It meets the European High Security standards. Again not available in the US. 1/2 the price of Advanced though. Those two really work. The regular ones the factory sells you I can beat myself with a 12 point socket.

Are you an expert on the matter because you had wheel locks and still had your wheels stolen? Maybe you can explain to us how you would defeat this lock.

Yep, same with locks on your home! Just makes them use a rock! Best put arrows to the wall safe so they don't mess up the rest of the house! Can't stop a pro!

Simple, a pro has his eyes on your car. He won't be locking for the wheels. He's going to take the whole car. So relax, your wheels are safe.

He parked in Detroit. and snow to boot. Lucky to have any thing left. Chain link fences with barbed wire all over. That be a hint. In fact if you can even see that mess. You should have turned around 5 miles back.

Yep in areas like that I refer to it as crooks having a "City Wide Parts Warehouse." Put in your order and they will have whatever next day!

I, like many here, don't feel the need for wheel locks. I live in Pittsburgh, not the worst for this type of theft and I understand that. If owning anything nice required me to have this constant apprehension about it, I wouldn't even want it the car.

Half the time I don't even lock the doors or close the windows when I park in public. I've watched seedy characters thrown off by it. It actually works. You can see their thought process. "The owner of this is obviously in sight and carrying a gun"

Try it out!
