Hey all! Super excited. Taking delivery today of my 2022 3LT Convertible Z51 Black on Black.
Here is my ask. Other than the obvious, like don't let them touch the car with a buffer, etc., etc. is there anything you all would recommend I do/don't do?
Buffer or not, I wouldn't let them even WASH it.
Also, look it over carefully for damage from shipping or otherwise.
Make sure you got all the options you paid for.
I found a great small distributor who did Courtesy Delivery for my 2017 Grand Sport and my C8. Before the Grand Sport arrived visited with the Service Manager who I never met (great guy as is their Corvette Tech.) Felt a bit uncomfortable telling them not to wash the car and NO dealer sticker etc. Didn't want to indicate I didn't trust them (which I did not.) Told him I was going to wash with Dawn when I got it home, Claybar and use Zaino polish (which is what I did) said don't bother to wash it.
He said yep my wife has a C7 and when It came in said the same. And don't worry about the decal the fellow who washes cars installs those and he won't touch it!
For the C8 he called and asked if I wanted to watch them remove the white covering. I said great, but will take an hour. He said no problem the truck just left with 2 more Vettes, we'll be hear. It was 5 PM and he and the owners' son took it off and the PDI was done the next day.
You can see my C8 was clean coming off the truck. Follow the service manager's wife's advice! You don't want the same rags they use to wash cars that are in for service touching your new C8!
Remember, certain KEY FOB things dont work if both FOB's are "present" to the car.
Frunk- 1 short press then press/hold = "pop"
Z-Mode + Manual is a great way to complete the 500 mile break-in (no taking RPM past 3500-4000), dont let the rpm "hover" at any single RPM for too long, that 500 miles will go quick.
Take a week or so to tailor the cars systems to your LIKING!
Dont take any interior or exterior wraps off. Take it off at home, with a beer. Wash it yourself on the first nice day. Have a game plan for your wash and your preferred products.
It's far too easy to get so excited about getting a new car, especially after waiting for a long time to want to just jump in the car and go.
Instead of acting like it's a new car, examine it as if it were a used one you are considering purchasing. Go over it with a fine tooth comb as if you don't know or trust the seller ONE BIT. Make it your task to find the hidden flaw.
It'll be hard to resist wanting to hear it run, then wanting to jump in and drive. DON'T. Again, treat is as a USED CAR.

Yep the 2020 C8 Owner's Manual said even if you use 91 octane (all that is available in some areas) you lose power! Quoting: "Use premium unleaded gasoline meeting ASTM specification D4814 with a posted octane rating of 93 — (R+M)/2. If unavailable, unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 91 may be used, but with reduced performance and fuel economy.
If the octane is less than 91, the engine could be damaged and the repairs would not be covered by the vehicle warranty. If heavy knocking is heard when using gasoline rated at 93 octane, the engine needs service. "
Yep they pushed the compression ratio to 11.5:1 to get 490 hp. Back in the day would have required Sunoco 260 = 100 octane!
Funny, they changed the wording in the 2022 C8 manual probably because the folks in CA (where you can only get 91 octane) were pissed! It says: "Premium unleaded gasoline meeting ASTM specification D4814 with a posted octane rating (R+M)/2 of 91 or greater is required."
My manual says use "top tier" 93 fuel only. I have been using it for years in my other vette. Find a few local stations that carry it and only use that fuel.
As hard as it is.....try and baby it in the lower gears (don't let it redline) and get to your 500 miles of non-highway driving.
When you go to pick up the car take your phone and carefully video every inch of the car just in case you notice something later. I did have a small paint issue that I spotted and it was repaired by GM.
I've seen this recommended a few times but without explanation. Can you elaborate on why? Jerry's note above is the first set of details I've seen. Is that the end of it?

+1. Ignore anyone who gives you that old trope "drive it like you stole it" nonsense. Per the manual and the above advice, easy on the brakes for the fist 200 miles to get the pads bedded in properly, stay below 4k, no consistent speeds (cruise control) for the first 500. Once that tach redline moved to 6500 (be sure a watch your dash as you approach 500 miles-it's a very cool thing!), THEN you can hit the Z-mode button, and start to put the hammer down. Final break-in is no track days until you pass 1500 miles.....
It's is so hard to baby this machine for the first 500, but I think it will pay you dividends down the road. You will find you can't stay out of this car. Had mine for 3 months and have 7k miles on it......everyone says it.....................you will love this car. Congratulations!
Good question, am at 3000 through MM. I assume the idea is to not remove the car from the dealer until everything is right (as far as you can detect). If it has scratches, dents, or something doesn't work leave it and tell the dealer to call you when everything is fixed? Since you have already paid for the car at that point I assume asking for your money back is not an option (although with the markups most dealers may be glad to do this).
From another thread on oil level checking, they discussed verifying oil level before leaving a dealer with a new C8. But the engine needs to be up to operation temp and running to check the oil. Don't know what the dealer would say if you asked to drive around for a while before signing final paperwork.
Congrats on picking up your black on black, my second choice color.
Thanks all for the advice! Took it all in stride. We did find one small issue on the car - a little chip on the spoiler - dealer is ordering another one, painting it to spec and will install it. Meantime, car is perfect otherwise. Very happy!!!!! :-)
MY best advice, and I din not follow it last week when I got my 22…..exoshield on the windshield. 1100 miles 3 chips in the windshield. And I don’t tailgate. Freakin corvette windshields are a stone magnetic.

That was a good experience! I need to mark this dealer down but I bet this is the Southern part of SC? I'm in Greenville.
