Can someone give me the lowdown on the Dynamic shift lights? It's mentioned at the 1:40 mark in the video below. I can't find one mention of them in the owners manual and a search of this forum failed to return any results. From what little I've been able to gather, the screen on the DIC has to be in sport in order for them to appear.
Those Apple Watch activity rings in the sport cluster are dynamic shift lights?
Dont know that I ever paid attention
That's what she says. And then she says something about them appearing when driving aggressively. I assume that's in manual mode but she doesn't elaborate.
It's rings of Green, Yellow, then Red that come from the middle of the tac as you are getting close to redline. Any mode that you have the sport dash displayed they'll show up in manual or auto. I took a poor screenshot it right when they show up when she changes driving modes but it you can see the lines all appearing around the "P".
I can't say that they appear in all modes, as my brain hasn't registered that yet. I do know it is not drive mode sensitive, rather it is display mode sensitive, as you can set the display to be what you wish AND then link that to drive mode.
Also it doesn't appear AT ALL until you start to get into the higher Rs. Again my brain hasn't registered EXACTLY when it starts to show up but I'm fairly sure that it's somewhere over 4k RPM.
I seem to recall being rather startled when the first couple of times.
You can get real shift lights in track mode if you program the track mode "Transmission" display to show "numeric." The little rings are very hard to see if you don't focus on the tach which is pretty distracting and dangerous at speed. With the shift lights display in track mode you can't miss them in your peripheral vision because they are big and bright. The green light appears at about 5500 RPM. Yellow says "better shift now" and red says "I'm about to cut off the fuel."
I tried it today. If you’re just driving normal on the street in auto you’d probably never see it in action, especially if you don’t have the track mode setting on the hud.
