Actually NO.. they don't see it. Two things keep them from seeing it, aside from not having a wire hanging down the windscreen....
1) They car is so low, they have to bend over just to look in.... They don't want to get down on their knees so they're always looking DOWN not up. .. I used the same location in my MX5. When I got pulled over in it, I walked, no ticket, in part because they never saw it (I believe) I also keep on in my FiST. It got broken into and looted. They went thru the console and glove box, and never looked up to see the detector. and
2) The police now make it a policy to come to the passenger side. Their view of the driver's side visor is blocked UNLESS they are looking specifically for something there. ..
No suction cups on the windscreen to announce to the outside world, police or thieves it's presence. Nothing below the mirror, not even a bracket to obstruct vision (or indicate a device).
that sounds pretty ideal, would you mind sharing a pic?
I published this information awhile back and decided to put it out again in case anyone is interested.
It turns out the spot just on top of the infotainment center is a good firm location to mount a radar detector. I used a commercially available magnetic mount (link attached), then just ran the wire down the seam of the dashboard, behind the console and connected directly to the 12V power receptacle. Total installation time was way less then an hour.
It’s currently unavailable on Amazon. Any idea where to find a similar item?
It shows as available to me, today at least. That’s the exact mount I have for my Escort Redline 360C. I just run the cord over to the power port under the glovebox. Easy to move the detector from vehicle to vehicle since the steel plate is stuck to the bottom of the detector and I use a windshield suction cup mount in my other vehicles which attach to the top of the detector.

So it comes with a separate plate that stays fixed to the bottom of the detector? That'll work for me since I mount it on the visor in my other car.
As a follow up I went and purchased one of these and I'm sorry to say that in the sun with the weight of a radar detector it slowly starts leaning over and eventually the adhesive lets go. Disappointed.

Interesting. I have had mine in the car since October and it is holding up fine. Maybe it just has not gotten hot enough yet?

Did you clean the back of the infotainment screen with alcohol first? Also, the mounting surface of the mount has a slight curve to it, so the middle portion of the adhesive doesn't make complete contact to a flat surface. I added a 1/2" wide strip of 3M VHB to the center to compensate for the curve.

I don't understand why everyone mounts their detectors right in the line of sight on the dash or mirror when there are remote mount detectors available. I had one for many years mounted behind the grill. The display/control unit was small enough to hide in the ashtray. Sure was better than having it in your face!

Hmm, I've had my Escort Passport Max mounted out of my sight of the road on my 2014 C7, 2017 C7 Grand Sport and now C8. No need or desire to pay a high price for one hidden!
On my prior 2008, 1993, 1988 Vettes had a smaller Escort detector clipped to my passenger sun-visor. Got power by tapping it's mirror light!
op could you show how you wired the radar? Is the wire showing?i like the placement right above the stereo.
I ran the wire behind the infotainment screen, and using an upholstery tool, squeezed it into the gap between the instrument panels, to the accessory plug under the glove box. Easy install with NO wiring in plain sight. Here are pictures showing the radar detector on and off the mount. You can see the wire underneath, but can't see it from inside the car...
Question posed-do you really need a Radar Detector? Since most agencies use KA and unit radios often emit a K band signal,, I find it very useful to keep me from doing stupid things at the wrong damn time. K or KA band sounds off is enough to remind me to look first.
Of course you don't need one, but mine has paid for itself. Waze saves me on highways, my V1G2 has saved me 2-3x on fun twisty back roads. Combine it with free JBV1 android app for some serious upgrades.
My latest mounting position is easy to implement. It uses the power receptacle under the passenger dash with a right-angle plug. Wire is hidden until it comes out near the windshield. Here are some pics:
Just removed as C8 is for sale, waiting for my E-Ray! Will install on it! Same Escort Detector I bought for my early 2013 C7. Have every speed trap I have seen in 10 years where I drive, which is 99% locally! Also school zones etc. Nice young lady announces "Speed Trap" as I approach the GPS location I have marked! Found the black painted wood block I attached to the Dash and to the Detector with 3M Dual Lock was thicker than needed. Have a thinner one roughed out mostly to get the detector level.
Connected with two sets of wires so could adjust the length going to the dash. The connection and extra wire all hidden behind the panel in the footwell. Wire tucks behind panel going up to dash and under the dash "shelf" on the right. Will take just a few minutes to install on the E-Ray.
Since I live in the one state where they're illegal, the OP's location won't work for me. Much too visible. My V1G2 is mounted on the passenger sun visor, where it's nearly impossible to see with the top up. I use JBV1 so everything displays on my phone which is mounted next to the infotainment screen (otherwise could us a remote display for the RD). Still need to find a better solution for top down driving, but because of the law I don't really use it in local driving, and on a long trip I keep the top up. At least until I get out of state.

Someone here places it on the dash to the left of the Driver's Information screen. . Still has plenty of range and just covers is with a hat when parked, (or pulled over)
I bought this and it fits almost flush in the cigarette lighter outlet under the glove compartment. You have to solder wires to the two contacts inside. There is an opening/hole behind both sides of the console to route the wire from the passengers side to the drivers side. I bought an Escort Smart Cord that has a mute button and wanted to mount it in a convenient spot. I detached the console lower side trim and found the hole near the front end of the console side trim near the glove box. I taped the wire to a 2 ft long tube and it went right thru from the passenger side to the drivers side.
I wired up the Escort Smart Cord then ran the wire under the steering column
then behind the drivers side ‘A’ pillar and used the suction cup mount to attached the Escort right at the top of the windshield near the mirror. I used 3M double sided to attach the small mute switch just below the engine start button so it just above your knee and easy to mute.
