I know I saw a post somewhere, but I did a search and cannot find it, so it was probably on Facebook or something and I cannot find it.
I've had my C8 for almost two weeks and I have noticed lately that even with the light switch always on auto, my headlights are on during the day. I've tried turning the switch to off and back to auto and the lights still come on. Before I go to the dealer I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this?
Since my dealer is 85 miles away, I didn't want to make potentially two round trips for this issue and decided to fix it myself. The correct part number is believed to be 13545621 but it's almost impossible to find that right now so I went with a potential substitute in 13529378 which I found online for about $15.
Not only did this part fix my issue, it's clear Chevy isn't always using the exact same part number with these sensors as 13529378 is the same part that happened to be in my particular car originally. (see pictures below, old sensor is on the left, new one on the right)
This was an easy swap, I recommed sitting in the passenger seat for easier access. I put blue tape on the either side of the sensor, used a knife to gently pull the sensor up to get a plastic pry tool underneath it....then pried around the sensor until it popped out. It has just one plug then the whole thing snaps back in.
I pulled the car out into the sun and it works correctly now, so i don't have to worry about this issue anymore thankfully. I hope this helps!
Is this a problem, or just looking to turn them off?
All my M/C's are always on with no way to turn them off. I like that for the same reason as the C8, I will take all the visibility I can get for other people to see something coming...me.

I would rather just have the day time running lights on during the day.
The headlights are not always on in "Auto" mode. I keep mine in Auto mode and the headlights only come on when there isn't enough light hitting the sensor on the dashboard (like upon startup in my garage).
Owners Manual:
Automatic Headlamp
System
When the exterior lamp control is
set to AUTO and it is dark enough
outside, the headlamps and parking
lamps come on automatically.
There is a light sensor on top of the
instrument panel. Do not cover the
sensor, otherwise the headlamps
will come on when they are not
needed.
The system may also turn on the
headlamps and parking lamps when
driving through a parking garage or
tunnel.
If the vehicle is started in a dark
garage, the automatic headlamp
system comes on immediately. If it
is light outside when the vehicle
leaves the garage, there is a slight
delay before the automatic
headlamp system changes to the
DRL.
Positive. I am guessing I have a bad sensor that thinks it's dark out when it is not.
Make sure you haven't accidentally covered the sensor with something. I threw some mail on the dash in my wife's car and it took me a few minutes to figure out why the display had gone dark.

My friend had this happening in his C8. Come to find out, his sensor was blocked by his radar detector. We moved it and the headlights went back to functioning normally.

There is nothing on the dash, no radar, nothing is there that wasn't on there the day I took delivery.
I’ll play! Check the “taillights” when outdoors in bright light. They shouldn’t be on if daylight running lights are only lights on-right? Don’t have a C8 but multiple C7s.

Same for me. It has been mostly overcast since I purchased it but I notice the headlights are on all the time. Hopefully this will go away once we get full sun. If not ill mention it to the dealer during my exhaust install.
I've checked and yes, it is broad daylight and my headlights will go on and off with no rhyme or reason-they will stay off while going through a shaded area, but come on in the middle of a highway drive with nothing but sun. There is absolutely nothing on the dashboard, and yes, when the head lights come on so do the tail lights. I am thinking it is a bad sensor and will have to have the dealer check it out, but if it involves taking the dashboard apart, as annoying as it is, I think I will live with it. When I think dash board disassembly and reassembly I think rattles, which will be worse than head lights going on and off.

I took delivery this past weekend and unfortunately I'm having the same issue. Full sunlight my headlights are always on in auto...pull into the shade and they turn off. Its like the sensor is flakey or backwards. I wonder if they got a bad batch at the factory or something.

Mine are always on. Despite what the manual says, the sun shining directly on the sensor is not enough light to turn them off in my car.

I have a message into my dealer and they are going to speak to the Corvette tech and see if he has seen this and if GM has posted anything on it. I will post again when I hear something.
I have the same issue, with the switch in the auto position, my headlights will be on in the middle of the day when there is a high ambient light level. When the car goes in for it's first service, I'll note this, maybe by then there will be a SW update for it.
