If this topic has been answered, please forgive me. Send me a link if necessary! I searched and didn't find anything! As an airline flight instructor, I'm a stickler on mechanical things being clean. The easiest way to find a leak or something is spotting dirt or oil where it's not supposed to be! All of my cars (prior Corvettes and others) have had the engine bay "lightly" power washed so as to remove dirt, grime and oil and not affect the "don't get this wet" areas. I see lots of information on cleaning the C8 coupe engine bay but there's no mention of the HTC. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge on the need for or the actual process of cleaning the HTC engine bay? Thanks!
The engine compartment is made to get soaked the HTC is no different.
I guess I don't understand the answer as it doesn't pertain to the two questions. Is there a need because it is completely enclosed? Is there any different process?
1. Yes, it gets dirty. Not terribly so, but there's plenty of airflow through the engine compartment, and that means dirt as well. It mostly seems dusty, rather than any stuck on dirt. Unlike the coupe, there shouldn't be any water spots in there.
2. Unless you take off the heat shield (18 torx screws) you won't see the engine or the dirt.
3. What I've always used for cleaning my engines was to spray some Adam's All Purpose cleaner on a small towel and wipe down the areas i want to clean. On the C8, that will pretty much be the upper areas, since the lower (oil pan, etc.) are completely enclosed by the belly pan. While I know a little water won't hurt anything, I rarely find a need on modern cars for anything more than wiping it down. So far, no oil residue or "grime" on anything.
Thanks! That is the answer I was looking for. I might decide to take off the heat shield and see what it looks like. I've had the car for a bit over a year. Being an airline instructor, I have to know what's going on with anything mechanical! Habit I guess. I've got a Torx bit so I might just take it off and look around!
