Default GM Credit Card Program Still Active?

I'm confused. For years, I have used my GM Credit Cards points for purchases of several new cars (including three new Corvettes). The most recent discount I got was $1,500.00 off my 2022 C8. Now, I look all over the web but can't seem to find any current reference to this discount program. I see many references on line to the "GM Rewards Card", but that does not seem to be the same program (It seems to be more geared toward discounts on service & accessories). No matter how hard I look, I can't seem to locate anything on the web that assigns a specific dollar amounts of discounts to a particular make & model of new GM (e.g., $500 on new Spark, 1K on new Traverse, 1.5k on new Corvette, etc.)

Anyone able to clarify?

The GM card transitioned from Capital One to Marcus by Goldman Sachs. There are different cards with different benefits. The Marcus card can be linked to your GM Rewards

I had one of the original GM Cards where I got 5% back on every purchase up to $500 per year for 7 years, so I could earn up to $3500 off ANY GM vehicle. They’ve made several program changes over the years (I got my GM Card back in ‘95), but my original deal was always grandfathered in and it looks like it’s grandfathered in with the change to Marcus too. I plan to use it on my first ‘Vette purchase too!

I agree. I have the original GM Card and the new card still shows my $3K in rebates on a new GM vehicle, although the eligible vehicles list does not include all of GM offerings.

I have the GM Mastercard. It has unlimited redemption and no restrictions. You earn 4x on every dollar with no limit, and 7x on purchases from GM. Really good deal if you know you will buy GM. I redeemed ~480,000 points ($4800) on my C8.

The switch to Marcus has been a pain in the *** but once everything is set up it should work fine.

“‘My GM Rewards” is the rewards for non card holders and generally has a bunch of exclusions and limits. “My GM Rewards Card” is what you want to be looking for.

Marucs is by far the worst f***ng credit card company I've ever dealt with. I have no idea how they are licensed to operate a card.

Everything from the application process, to verification, to just general card use has been a nightmare. Card gets randomly locked for no reason. Call support - no one has any idea. Then a "security department" will try and help, then just hang up on you when they can't figure it out. Total clusterf*

How were you able to determine that the original deal carried through? I also was a "charter member" for the GM card benefits, and recall something (from years ago) about how the original deal would never change. But over the years, the information I started to receive did not appear to honor the original agreement. I also wondered if the agreement would really transition if the card administrator changed. For example, the act of setting up a Marcus account might constitute exchanging the old card for a new one. I did receive some substantial discounts in the past from the GM card rewards.

Do you happen to have a link to the list of eligible vehicles?

When I go to see my current GM Card earnings, I’m still showing 5% rewards per purchase up to $500 per year as the terms in my account…even after the Marcus change. I just screen shot the attached pic a couple of mins ago.
This is where I go to see my current earnings:
https://www.gmcard.com/summary

I got MANY offers over the years asking me to change over to whatever the new earnings model was going to be, but I never accepted, so I stayed with my original offer grandfathers in.

I just went through MERGING my GM Rewards Account with my GM REWARDS MARCUS CARD. I assumed INCORRECTLY that when they went to the MARCUS card my accumulated points on the current GM Rewards card would simply TRANSFER over...NOPE!

When I logged into my GM REWARDS ACCT I had like 2,800 points....not good. When I logged into my GM REWARDS MARCUS acct I have like 140,000 pts...MUCH better.

So, I called the GM REWARDS customer service, asked them to link them together, she called it a MERGE. Took a couple mins to confirm all the info and VIOLA! My GM REWARDS ACCT now shows ALL my points aggregated together.

"Hello Steven,

Just an FYI. I called the GM Rewards Center and was told the ability to link cards is temporarily disabled and won't be available again until after August 26th...

I haven’t been able to find a web link where it states exactly which vehicles are eligible for GM card redemption, but I do get brochures in the mail on occasion which lists the vehicles eligible. Not everything qualifies. Best bet is to call the card administrator and ask about the particular vehicle you are interested in.

It was for merging my MARCUS/GM REWARDS card to my GM REWARDS ACCT. so it may be a different type of merge?

Wait…now you’ve got me wondering…
My new Marcus account is grandfathered in and I’m earning 5% back on all purchases. I just presumed the “My GM Rewards” program was for the new card and I’d lose my current grandfathered in GM card earnings model if I enrolled. Is My GM Rewards a completely different program that I can merge with my Marcus card and still keep my old program of 5% back on everything and now earn even more with My GM Rewards? I don’t want to lose my original GM Card offer of 5% back on every purchase by linking the 2 programs!

OK, I just spent about 20 mins on the phone with GM Rewards to get clarity. Since I’ve been a member since 1995, I AM grandfathered in with my original earnings model of 5% cash back up $500 per year rewards earned. The ONLY way I can switch over to the new rewards program is to apply for a new card. My current card can’t be converted to the new program.
Now, I can join the new FREE My Rewards, but there’s no point in linking it with my current GM Card because the points can’t be combined, and my 5% cash back reward would prevent the points from posting to the free My Rewards account. 5% cash back trumps the points.
The only way the points from the free My Rewards account can be combined with the points I’m earning on the new GM Card is to get the new GM Card.
I think I’ll just keep my old card and program. It’s a lot simpler…and I still earn more on my every day purchases (5% vs essentially 4% with the new points model.)

it was, and the hoops I have to jump through to find my rewards balance are ridiculous now…why can’t they just put it on my statement like the old card…
