after repositioning my C8 several times on my lift i decided to back it in instead of driving straight in like I do with my front engined cars. The weight seems better balanced-
long arms towards front wheels and short arms to rear. I have double stacked lifting pucks made from hardwood 3/4 in plywood
were the stacks of plywood necessary to get the car high enough for the arms to sing under the car to reach the lift points? On my c7 z06 only needed 1/2" on the front wheels to make it work and was hoping the front lift option would be all that a person would need. As far as to the orentariation front or back in I don't think it would matter, your lift looks just like mine and mine is rated at 10,000 pds and I put my HD 2500 duramax on mine for general maintenanceo and it much heaver probably double.
I made ramps that raise the car 3 inches so I can get my lift arms under the car. I then use blocks on the lift arms to lift on the car pucks. I do not think I could get the arms correctly placed without the ramps.
Be careful when lifting a C8, different balance points than previous generations, I'm sure that you have seen the U Tube videos of C8's falling off of the lifts
Center of blance on a C 8 is 43 inches in front of the rear wheel hub center. When I drive my car into my lift the center is about 14 inches in back of the center of the lift pillers. I never have measured or checked other cars like the C 6 I had. I would think my 2 door pickup truck would have the most center of point ahead of the front pillers of any of my vehicles. Just some thoughts.
Don't see IF you use jack pads so the car is being lifted and ONLY being lifted at the GM oval holes in the frame, front back should make no difference. Now might on the loads on the lift to keep all 4 arm ends level BUT not where C8 "feels" being lifted. My free body diagram says equal!
I brought this pic to the Great Corvette tech who was trained on the C8 BUT mine was the 1st at the dealership. He agreed with me that he should use my four 1" high jack pads and NOT just position his 4 lift arms where it "looked good" to lift as it could be outside the fame rail. He has used my jack pads every time I have been there in 26 months. Another advantage was when he changed my DCT filter. Chuck below only uses his lager diameter lift arm pads he said to get to the 4 outer aluminum pan bolts they had to lift the C8 several times to reposition the pads to access those bolts.
Tech was able to get those outer 4 bolts with a wrench!
Downloaded from the Rotary Lift website. Had my C8 on the lift but not all the way up. Just a few feet off the ground. Seemed as stable as any car I’ve had lifted. Normal C6/C7/C8 jacking pads.
