Default C8 Problems

And the problems continue.
Check Engine light comes on.
Car is shifting erratically.
Idle Speed Disabled - warning.
Car won’t go into reverse - R indicator flashing.
Service Transmission - warning.
Now what is going on with the second transmission in this ‘21 Corvette?

Hi,

Was the car at Marco Island during the hurricane? Sounds like you had trans issues before that, but just curious if there is any connection to these issues and the storm.

If it is not too late, start exploring that option now.

Probably no connection, more of a tropical storm than a hurricane since it was far offshore from Marco. I sat out on our balcony for much of the storm. Sure, lots of rain, but car drives in a rainstorm all the time. Ever visit the factory and see the water test?
Just the Tremec junk!

Luckily, I am near a Hendricks location.
They replaced the transmission in record time - 2-1/2 weeks.
They are getting a lot of experience in this process.
FYI - Codes found: p0700, p2714, p2715, p2854 and p073e.

This will be the first new car I am buying that I worry about not only it’s reliability, but the ability of the dealer to fix it properly. I am hoping that GM fixes these issues in the next week or so, my TPW is next week.

Even dogs learn from their mistakes, will GM?

Not diminishing the OP’s experience but you will always see people posting about their issues, and rarely see anyone posting that everything is just fine and working as it should. I’m one of those, with a problem free ‘22 Z51 HTC. With the 10’s of thousands of problem free C8’s on the road, you are more likely to fine than not.

Having said that, I’m currently waiting for my my Lincoln Aviator to be built (scheduled for next week) and I’m getting anxious about all the issues I’m reading about online…and multiple recalls in the last month. I’m trying to give myself my own advice, but I do understand where you are coming from. Ironically, I am getting out of a Volvo XC90 that was supposed to be “reliable”, and I have never had so many MAJOR problems with one vehicle. Major issues and disappointing service. Never again.

The newer cars are now up to “average” reliability according to the latest Consumer Reports data. The transmission is no longer listed as a major trouble spot … mostly electronics are keeping it at average. The vast majority of C8 owners do not have any serious issues with their cars, based on several online polls done here and on other forums. 100% trouble free? No … no more than many other cars. But, the C8 is not a disaster waiting to happen. It has turned out to be fairly reliable, and the current version of the DCT is holding up well. Problems do happen, and some owners have had some really awful issues. A marginal service facility doesn’t help.

Reading about some of the worst C8 service experiences, which always wind up on the various forums, can make one think they’re riding on a time bomb which can explode without warning at any time. That's just not the case. As with any modern car, glitches can pop up and a trip to the dealer may be needed. Major problems are not common. The overwhelming odds are that your new C8 will be just fine, and provide many years of trouble free service.
