No damage by just briefly going over, they set those parameters because it they didn't there would be owners running them at 6,000 rpms on the way home from picking up new C8s from the dealership.
With just 160 miles I inadvertently exceeded the 4500 rpm limit twice. Instantly backed off. How much if any damage have I done?
it’s ruined, connecting rods are going to come out of the block at any second…
lol seriously though; nothing to worry about. With my c8 and every other car, truck and gasoline powered toy I’ve ever owned it saw redline from day one. In bursts, warm engine etc.
when a new car is released, its passed around to magazines and influencers for testing they are thrashed hard from mile one. There’s a recent video of a gm employee with (Emilia Hartford) beating on the new eray and in it comments that it’s still in “break in mode” and it’s detuned until completed.
I know this is a few years old, but I did the same thing two days ago. My car had 300-miles on it. I was making a left turn onto a busy road and a car came up quickly and instead of moving over a lane it just kept coming at me. So I pushed the pedal a tiny bit more and the car downshifted and took off and hit 5000 RPM, I was in auto mode but quickly gave the shifter a flick. I had thought the car would not exceed 4500 but it definitely will! I wonder if the C8 computer shows over-revs like Porsches do (not that 5k is an over-rev). You can actually scan a Porsche to look for over-revs and a category 1-2 is fine. Any over-rev report over 4 could be serious.
