Engine failure- now resolved - follow up
13 k miles 2021 HTC non Z and 41 days after bearing rod failure and 2 cylinders smoked a new engine and starter were installed and the car returned. GM is on this and Ive been dealing with exec. That being said yesterday I did go to porsche and deposit on a 992.2 allocation. Likely more than a year out for fulfillment. Thinking of a cpo porsche in the interim.
I have little confidence in the reliability of this car with its catastrophic failure. My wife was surprised I even wanted to drive it home from the dealer.
I got in the car and immediately missed the clutch pedal Ive gotten used to in the old boxster i was using. 500 mile break-in all over again will be a challenge- but it is a pretty car

I have owned both since 1986, own/owned 8 turbo or turbo s porsche's and 15 Corvette's, only issue I have had on either was a bad steering rack from Bosch on my 2017 Z06/Z07, but I did have a new Escalade explode in my garage in 2007, and GM was very good to fix the whole issue, but problems SUCK. Porsche is not free of issues in some models. I have been VERY pleased with the srevice I get out of both manufacturers.Good luck

Certainly can understand your lack of confidence in GM. Glad you got your Vette back and hopefully no more quality issues prior to your moving on. Good Luck!

The grass is not always greener on the other side. My brother has owned several different Porche models. He also had multiple issues on them. He sold his last Porche and bought a C8 Corvette. He is very happy with his purchase and the money he has saved in his bank account.

Glad to see you have your car back altho it might be for a short stay. You probably don't want to drive it much until you sell it outright or trade it for the CPO car.

Hopefully they got your C8 fixed for good this time. If you are going to get rid of it so be it, but would be great if you can enjoy it until then.

Thanks for the follow up on your situation.
Original engine failed. Warranty replaced the defective engine and you are back in the road. The dealership took longer than they should have to perform the repair. Now you have no confidence in the car.
Go buy your Porsche and be happy. Hope it never has any issues.
Live long and prosper.

Nice to see you are back on the road with your Corvette. It does sound, however, that it is time for you to move on to something different. Future issues you may encounter with this car, even if routine, seems to me will only confirm in your mind that the car is not reliable. With this outlook, its time for something new.
Thank you for the informative follow-up.

What exactly did GM do for you, all together?
I am in a similar situation, so feel free to email or message me directly. Good luck.

Speaking with my GM connection later today to discuss same. Nothing to date has been done- they effect resolution only after car is redelivered.
I was not offered a loaner by the dealer and used one of my own vehicles.
I thank those with the non childish responses for their support. I had been a very happy prior customer of porsche with many positive experiences with dealership and service customer service- having been through 6 new cars with them over 17 years. I left as I thought it was time for a change. Did the F type R which broke at 600 miles and had myriad issues. Went to a c7 where I had 7 rims fracture and also had to deal with corporate over that issue and now the C8. Fool me once shame on you- fool me twice shame on me........

I have spent my entire adult life (that is a pretty decent amount of time) doing things involving cars (designing, building, modifying and have a few patents as well) and I have seen pretty much everything. Porsche was a very different company when they were on their own. My 30th Porsche was celebrated by them with a gift of a 18k gold pendant and neck chain and I had my own contacts to deal with. Today like Ferrari and Lamborghini they are just another corporation that makes cars. My neighbor just had the warranty voided on his 120k 718 GT4 because German HQ did not like what the DME said ( yes they will do that if you have a warranty issues large enough for them to request the files).
i am sorry you had an issues with your car OP and I certainly can’t blame you for wanting to get rid of the car but I am 15 cars away from hitting the 500 cars owned mark and I would say maybe 15% were trouble free.

I'm glad that GM and the dealer have finally gotten you back on the road. I can't comment on 41 days being too long or not. I'd say as long as they returned your car in perfect condition than it was at least treated right while at the dealership. I do wish GM's dealerships would do better at offering a courtesy car for when you are down like that. I don't expect another C8 as a courtesy car, although I do know that there are some who believe it should be exactly that. Regardless, it sucks that you no longer have confidence in this car. If the first 13K miles were trouble free till the bearing went out, I would expect that after the repair the car should be as good as it was before, ideally better in the engine department. However, that's just my thinking.. I'd understand it more if the car was a constant problem over those 13K miles. I wish you luck on whatever way you go.
