On a 21 c8 with 12000 miles is it necessary to purchase an extended warranty?

I bought one because I generally put a lot of miles on my cars, plus, in general, keep them a long time. Since I travel a LOT the peace of mind is worth a few bucks spread over months/years/miles....

Given that the 3 year, 36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty is expiring this year if not already expired, it would be prudent to at least look into getting an extended warranty. This is especially true if you intend to keep the car a long time.

You have to buy the GM warranty before your original 3 yr 36,000 mile expires.
i have purchased one for my last 2 corvettes from Todd Sunderland at MacMulkin Chevrolet.
I shopped around and he has the best prices available…
I think my C7 was about $15 per month…
It’s well worth the peace of mind..

Well, if the DCT goes south I would not want to fork out $20,000. Even after the recent big price increase the cost of a 84 months/ 7 years is $2185 that is only $26 per month / $312 per year! That is cheap protection.

Warranty Contacts

C8's have 5 cameras, 28 modules, sensors, solonids snd the DCT.

a speed sensor in my '20 was $3,200 after the dealer was done replacing

The two go to people for warranties on the forum are Dennis Fichtner at Laurel Chevy and Todd Sutherland at MacMulkin Chevy. If you decide to get an extended warranty, send them your vin and ask for a quote; see what they can do and betting they will be at least half of a dealer quote.

I have the Platium Zero deductible 7 years 56,000 miles.

Warranties can be transferred if sold to a private party or a refund obtained on the unused portion if cancelled

I believe it must be purchased 30 days before your factory warranty expires (or before 35,000 miles) , I thinkwhichever comes first

Keep in mind there are price increases every year and the price goes up as the mileage increases. Also as the time goes on you maybe denied coverage because of mileage or repair history

The 7/56k is the most popular warranty in my discussions with Dennis Fitchner. He also told me that a new DCT installed is $27k. I told him that I was more worried about the electronics on this car and the mechanicals on the HTC. With the number of miles I put on my 2021 every year my extended warranty from Dennis will take me to 2030. I paid $1677 for my warranty.

Dennis will also match Todd Sutherland's price and (nothing against Todd) was more detailed and prompt in his communication with me. I attribute that to how busy Todd is with all of the cars MacMulkin sells vs Laurel Chevrolet.

...or if you want to sell it for a much better price after your 3/36 B2B factory warranty expires. As most here knows, the GMPP warranty is transferable.

Warranty
I’d ask it differently. I’d say how can you not have one? The cost of repair is out of sight even on small items. Imagine if you had a sensor and a module go at the same time. Would it be cheaper to buy a new C8? Lol 😂 I bought my warranty from MM for $1,178. Small potatoes to avoid a terribly expensive circumstance. How about your radio screen blacking out? Maybe a small electrical fire!!! Get the warranty even though it’s going to be more than it was last week.

When does the warranty mileage penalty kick in? Is it at 10,000 miles or is it at 12,000 miles?

For the GMEPP I believe it is 12000 miles.

I was a dummy and waited until my 2021 went over 12,000 miles so I paid about 2200 from Dennis, who was great to work with. Shortly after my factory warranty ran out my car started throwing a code on the dash that the rear hatch(coupe) was not properly latched even though I would check it and it would be buckled down tight. My local dealer fixed it with a new latch and the bill was $1838.00. I love my C8 but I would not drive it without a warranty. There are just too many high dollar components on the car that can possibly go wrong and being a mid engine design you have to take the car apart a lot of the time to get at the defective component.

Dennis is the way to go and a pleasure to deal with. 12,000 seems to be a key number and I would tell them that you've got 11,500 miles.
Dennis just did my 23 C8 for 84 months 56000 miles out to 2031 with a Platinum plan for less than $1800.
I think that's good insurance given the fact that everything for the C8 seems to be so expensive.

The transmission failures although rare are not due to high miles. It can happen at any time and it’s over $20k to fix…. I guess it depends on price. My AMG dealer wanted $4,500 for two years but my C8 was only $1,500 for seven years… that’s well worth it to me.
