Well we got all those messages yesterday after a short trip in the car. The ESC, Check Engine lights all came on followed by Rear Axle Off, as well as a medium to loud knocking noise coming from the engine until shutdown. We also had a strange smell not like and engine blowing up or brakes etc. Then, the fan for the engine ran for quite a bit; which we have never heard before. Hope this is not as bad as I think it could be. We checked all the fluids which were full, and went through the maintenance as well and didn't see anything out of the ordinary other than the rear axle off and ESC. No leaks on the garage floor etc. Waiting on GM roadside currently to take the car to the dealership. Any thoughts or a guess...
Medium to loud knocking sound coming from engine accompanied by check engine light doesn't sound good. My guess would be a rod or main bearing but hopefully not, but you never know until you dig in.
Tow company just pickled it up. Dealership said corvette tech is not in today, but will be first in line tomorrow with no other corvettes scheduled for service. We will see what happens. Just hope it is not as bad as I think. Thanks RKCRLR for the thought, and I am of that opinion as well for my thoughts. Now we will see what comes out.
So, just got the call from the dealership. Not good news at all. The lifters broke. which is all the information they gave me so far. I asked if the top of the cylinders will be checked etc which they told me they would be. This is very disheartening, and sounds like a whole new top end of the motor. Anyone have experience with this, or know anyone who has. Just curious to hear how it turned out.
That isnt good, just dropped my car off on Saturday for same issues, although I didnt get a knock, but basically lost all power. Could barely back the car up onto my trailer as it wouldnt make it up the incline and just wanted to stall out.
This is not common but has happened on C7's and C8's.
I wish GM would give us the option to omit AFM, even if there is a penalty cost.
Can yo update your posting with MY and odometer?
Best wishes on a speedy repair.

LifterS broke? Having 2 or more lifters fail simultaneously indicates a deeper problem.
No real news other than some of the parts are ordered and arrived. They are waiting on gasket set. Gave me a loaner which helps keep the miles off the new dually. Cant wait to get the Vette back.
