Default 2024 trans failure today (2 weeks old)

I purchased my Riptide Blue C8 wZ51 two weeks ago Friday. Today at 456 miles it appears the trans went out. I was driving today, and I did notice that at one point the trans allowed the RPMs to pass the break-in rpm redline (while in auto). Maybe 20 minutes later, I get a warning light for “Restraint System” then another for “transmission”. I pull over into a lot and shut it down, then car will not restart.

I called roadside assistance and as they were on the way I accessed the battery and tried disconnecting negative terminal, thinking it may be an electrical issue and maybe if I allow the computer to reset by disconnecting the battery that would work. Negative. When the roadside tech came, he tried to put a charger in battery, when we attempted to start, it was noted that the trans was in Neutral.

Flatbed was called out, car was taken to dealership. Another oddity…driver side window would not roll back up. Weird.

At this point, very frustrated. I thought I had done well, I got 8% off MSRP, followed the break-in procedure of watching the revs and today would have been the day I had full access after break-in.

Anyone have any advice? Car was XPel’d and ceramic coated and was just perfect, now it’s sitting at the dealer with a window halfway down. Hopefully nobody breaks into the car or rain isn’t in the forecast. I now have a $78k paperweight.

Anyone have input or advice?

Sounds electrical to me, not mechanical. Highly doubtful it's your transmission.

As info: The break-in redline is a visual only, not a limiter.

Cover your window with some plastic and painters tape.

Also, reason to believe it’s transmission due to the car not going into Park when the car was stopped/door opened. The car remained in neutral. Weird, but AAA tech thought it is likely trans.

Said to hear, let's hope the transmission will not have to be replaced. Make sure the dealer covers up your window pronto.

Sorry for your issues on such a new car. Hopefully it is something simple and not the transmission.

As kracka sez above, unless you know for certain that this dealership will be open tomorrow (the Service Dept.), Labor Day, go back down there and tape up the window with plastic. No idea where you live (nothing in your profile), but if it rains, it's not the dealer's fault if you didn't close up the window one way or the other.

Good luck.

I m with Kraka, Im guessing there’s too much else going on besides the transmission for it to be solely a transmission related failure. Sounds very electrical, I know you said you took off the negative battery cable, but did you do a battery voltage and load test yet? These cars go crazy with faults when the battery is low.

call OnStar and have them read you the codes that are being generated, you should be able to do that from the phone and see if they can access your car remotely

take these pictures directly to the service manager. Somebody needs to be reprimanded. Or was it a tow truck operator?

This was AAA working on behalf of Chevrolet Roadside Assistance. Unbelievable. The entire front is XPel’d and I’m sure they have likely damaged something underneath. So frustrating on a two week old car.

I find it amazing no one from GM or Tremco has been on this forum and spilled the beans. What is the problem with these dct transmissions??

Luckily the splitter is cheap and easily replaced, and being it was a Chevy supplied tow it's on them to hash it out with the tow company for replacement. Since it's textured plastic, that portion won't have XPEL film on it. Replacement will literally take 5 minutes.

Regardless... Careless and unacceptable treatment of a brand new vehicle!

I agree. A new front splitter is likely in the cards, I tend to feel it’s an electrical issue. The battery is completely dead now, so I will ask for a new battery in addition to the splitter. Not sure about the extend of the damage.

Taylorblue,
I'm an expert on having your car sit at the dealership. Just search my post, get your favorite beverage and see what I have to say. Anyway, I would call the GM satisfaction # 1-866-636-2273 and file a claim with them. Not sure if they can really help any, but they will reach out to your dealer and create a case number. The more eyes you can get on your problem the better the chance at getting it fixed. Keep in contact with your dealership. I made point to be very courteous with my Service Adviser and was able to get updates every couple of days. Now about the only thing you can do is just be patient. Hopefully it just an error code, which happened to me and my car was only at the dealer for 1 day. trust me. I feel your pain. My 2022 has been back to the dealership 5 times for a total of 9 weeks for repairs.
Oh, one last thing. Tell GM satisfaction you deserve some concessions for your trouble. I got 1500 rewards points or whatever equaled $150.

Good luck and keep me posted.

My guess is a warranty replacement battery and the car will be back in business. Modern day rolling computer vehicles are insanely sensitive to battery condition. I gave up on warranty replacement Mopar batteries in my Jeeps and just installed my own quality batteries and haven't had any issues with those since (I use ACDelco AGM in them and they've been flawless).

I hope so, the issue is once AAA got there, even with battery charger, the car was stuck in neutral so we couldn’t start.

I don't know who is more pitiful, GM for selling such s**t or the dealer or whomever treated it so. All the best from here.
