Redoing my garare and am looking for some good LED ceiling lighting. Recommendations and where+ to purchase. Its a 20x20 two car, has 2 awful lights, having an electrician over to install new outlets and more lights.
Just about every led option can be bright enough these days, so it’s more a question of not going too bright and with the temp you want, and having enough lights to get good distribution without blinding hot spots. Hex lights are all the rage but I went with plain 4x1ft flat panel leds that have 3 adjustable brightness levels and 3k 4k 5k temp settings. Anything fixed - I want that flexibility.
4 is the minimum I’d do in a normal 2 car. 6 would be better so you can run them a bit dimmer with good distribution.
I use 4 foot LED strips. They replaced the old 4' florescent bulb fixtures and are about the same size. I have 4 of them over the car, and a 4 bulb LED strip over my workbench.
You can get real exotic with fancy reflectors and fixtures but the cost really goes up. I like the simple cheap ones in case I have to replace one.
I had a light over the engine compartment of the C6, no need for that with the C8. Bought a couple of LED floodlights and put them above the garage door springs with a separate switch.
They are aimed down, directly at the engine.
I purchased 4 sets of these. They daisy chain together so super easy to install. I also used a remote controlled plug so I can turn them on/off remotely. $50 for 8 x 4’ lights. They are VERY bright. 8,000+ reviews and 4.6*. I’ve had them for 3+ years and zero issues.
4' LED strip lighting is what I used & are available on Amazon. The nice part of it is that you can add more lighting as needed because the strips plug into each other to create a chain
Harbor Freight and Job Lot have LED lighting for about $15 each.
I suggest several, 7 to 9 stripes. They don't require a lot of power.
Merry Christmas to all
I have a similar sized two-car garage and went with a pair of these while remodeling a couple years back. Super clean look after installed, no major wiring needed, and excellent bright light. Lets you select the color temperature and dimmable as well.
LED's all the way. I'm in the process of switching all my (8) 8' T12 VHO florescent's with $60 ballast plus bulbs @ 280watts/fixture to direct wire led bulbs @ 80watts ea. No brainer!
Put in as many as practical, you can never have too much light.
As I had to commence replacing the old florescents in my 1200sq' garage, I simply got the highest output hanging LCDs from Lowes. They have been perfectly fine... certainly brighter than the ones they replaced. For me the issue is how many and location. All the best and Merry Christmas!
Barrina 4' is what I'm using. Hands down the best. Easy to install takes just a couple seconds to put the hangers up. here is example. You can link together how ever you want.
