Default C8 convertible orders

Do any forum members have any information as to when orders for the convertible might be opened? I am presently on the preorder list for the coupe, but after seeing the videos and info on the convertible I have changed my mind. My dealer has informed me I am probably 2-3 weeks from having my number come up, and then I will have to make a decision as to whether or not to let my number go for the coupe. He did tell me that when the order book for the vert opens up he will put me at the top of the existing list. I am leaning to do this. The best information I have thus far is that vert production will start in "early 2020," whatever that means. My dealer, Abel Chevrolet, checked with his regional rep who said orders would not be accepted until "sometime in the 1st qtr of the new year." This seems like an awfully long time, considering it was a relatively short time after the coup was released that orders could be placed. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

There’s no hard info yet. I don’t even care how long it takes. I gave up my early allocation after seeing that vert!

The targeted start of convertible production is Feb. 10. I seriously doubt that dealer orders will not be accepted by the factory until the first quarter. Orders for the coupe were being accepted close to 3 months before the December 2 targeted start of production. I am willing to bet that the factory will start accepting convertible orders by the middle of November at the latest.

The dealer I have a deposit with released a video stating that if you have a reservation for a C8, it doesn't matter if you want a coupe or convertible. As of now, they are not taking any orders, or producing any cars due to the strike.

I believe that is pretty much true. I think the Coupe / Vert is just like any other option as far as the dealer ordering process goes. Ferrari however handles it differently but Ferrari normally waits an entire year to 18 months to introduce the "spider" version.

The difference I can see in the OP's case is that the Coupe will be put first into production so if you ordered one early and switch to a Vert, it's going to be later to get a Vert. And I think Chevy will have a limit on how many they plan to make given its got to be ordered from a supplier. My guess is they will be a bit conservative and there may be constraints on getting them.

My Dealer told me that GM told him that he can change up to 40% of his coupe allocations to convertibles and convertible production starts in February. I'm on constraint for yellow and was expecting to have a coupe order submitted around the end of October but now I am getting the first convertible from his store and I think he said my order would be submitted in December but he didn't sound certain.

I was told the same thing when I talked to my dealer yesterday. No problem using my allocation for a convertible and they will switch it as soon as they can build one in the GM system. No date as to when that will be though.
