Default Convertible Engine Vent Question

I have a 2020 HTC still waiting to be produced. I was looking at the visualizer and noticed that when looking down through vent on the engine hood, you could see something shiny, like you could see part of the engine. I also understand there is an engine cover between the engine and the folded top.

Can someone with an HTC tell me what is directly under that vent and what you see? I would have thought it was the air filter chamber, which I thought was black plastic.

I did some searches, and didn't see what I wanted, I will continue looking.

I can definitely see stuff if I use a flashlight but I really am not sure what I'm looking at.

I can tell you that metal mesh gets HOT after driving.

This is a photo I took at MacMulkin that shows some detail of that area:

It looks to me like it’s probably the coolant reservoir. Look at about 1:08 on this video:

You're seeing the trans cooler brick and coolant reservoir etc. That vent is the outlet for air coming over the engine bay.

Thanks guys!

It looks like you have to be seeing part of the air filter housing and feeder tubes to it, as well. As I recall, that housing butts up to the trunk housing right in the middle of the car.

Since thinks are rearranged under there, I wonder if that means some aftermarket parts (headers, turbos, etc) will have to be different for the HTC.

That’s actually not a bad question to ponder and discuss.

Yes... the coolant reservoir is totally different w/ different lines in the HTC to make room for the top mechanism. I would be leery about modifying much on a HTC as no aftermarket will do the heat testing of an OEM.

the way this was filmed doesn’t really give you a good perspective of what you are looking at.
