If you change your oil yourself by backing up on ramps, you will need 8.2 qts of oil to refill v. 7.5 if the oil is changed on a hoist or flat ground.
Almost 3/4 of a qt of old oil left in the engine if you pay for an oil change.

I know mine will take a full 8 quarts backing it up on ramps.

Drain plug is towards the front of the motor. Oil runs downhill in my world.

Sounds like it needs to be on a ramp to get all of the old oil out. The message wasn't that clear, but I get it. Does the remaining "old" oil that doesn't drain cause any concern for anyone. Almost 3/4 a quart left is small compared to the remaining 7.5 quarts, but I'd rather get all of the old oil out.

I have changed mine 3 times (once at the dealer and twice myself) on a flat lift and it always has taken 8 gt to the full mark on the dip stick. 8 out 8 in.

8 quarts to the full mark, 7.5 recommended for the mid line.

There should be little or no oil in the oil pan (until the pan drain plug is removed). The oil is stored in the tank. If the car has been sitting for a long time some oil will seep out of the tank and into the oil pan. Jerry U speculated that the secondary gasket on the drain plug is probably the seal to the opening that lets the oil in the tank drain to the oil pan, and then out of the pan. I think that must be the case given that the majority of the oil stays in the sump tank. From the images of the oil pan, I don't see why all the oil would not drain out of it, if it is perfectly level when drained. There are some ridges in the pan, but they run front to back, and also appear to curve toward the drain plug at the drain end of the pan. If the car is not perfectly level, I can see where some oil might stay in the pan (unless it was tilted in the direction of the drain, of course).

THIS NEXT IMAGE SHOWS THE EXTRA GASKET ON THE DRAIN PLUG THAT PROBABLY SEALS THE DRAIN PATH FROM THE SUMP TANK - ITS LABELED #3

THE RIDGES IN THE OIL PAN RUN FRONT TO BACK. ITS NOT CLEAR WHY IT WOULD NOT DRAIN FULLY IF ITS PERFECTLY FLAT (LEVEL) WHEN DRAINED.

My son and I changed the oil using ramps. Let the oil drain for twenty minutes and then put in 7 quarts. I drove 50 miles back home and checked the dipstick and added 1/2 quart. Done
