Default What would you do different?

I’m a soon to be buyer looking to order so the wife and I can do Museum delivery and have the full experience. We’ve never owned a Corvette but have a ‘16 Viper we purchased back in 2017. I have fallen in love with the C8 Z06 for the same reasons everyone here has.

If doing it over, what would you do different? We’ve spec’ed out several but a 3LZ HTC in yellow with black roof, painted Z07 package with yellow calipers, GT2 seats, yellow stitching and seat belts, front lift, black wheels and exhaust tips seems to be our favorite.

Nothing much for me. Maybe do level 1 carbon fiber interior is the only thing I would have done differently, but still hard to justify the price of it. But the car is fully configured the way I wanted it.

I would have loved to do R8C and intended to, but the selling dealer wasn't comfortable with the process( I have a suspicion something more was going on there. nothing nefarious, but not told the full story).

I built my car very similar. A couple of things to consider:\:
  • Front radiator screens - you have to take off the front bumper to install
  • The stealth interior gives a little contrast to the interior
  • Most of the carbon fiber parts if not all can be found after market at a better price if you want to add later.
Good luck - sounds like a winner!

My thoughts are:
  • I would go the extra expense for exposed carbon personally -- it would always bother me a tad that I didn't. Personally, I prefer OEM instead of after market when it comes to carbon aero. I want it to be on the build sheet.
  • Definitely add radiator screens from the factory -- I'm looking to add to mine now and the work/labor is a PITA. It makes the price from the factory worth it.
  • I would personally add Level 1 carbon and Stealth interior
  • GT2 seats for a mostly street driven car for sure -- if you live at and drive the Nurburgring or track a lot , consider the competition seats.

I got a lightly used Z07 car, with ALL the exposed carbon. An expensive proposition for the original buyer, and a reasonable deal for me since they took a big depreciation hit. Would I have optioned all of that new myself from the factory? Nope, as I wouldn't spend $190k OTD for a Z06.

CONGRATS on the coming order, no matter what you get. Exciting!

Keep in mind the screens are not installed at BGA. They are done by the dealer. It's a matter of how much you trust the selling dealer to do the front end removal, etc.

I know I spent more money in doing so, but my selling dealer wasn't a high volume 'Vette dealer. This was their 2nd Z06 they have gotten. I bought them separately and had my xpel shop install them.

Street car or track car? I had a 3LT and went to 1LZ for many reasons but mine is a track car. There were some options that were a deal breaker for me as I disabled them on last car and it was a pain with the constant error messages, one of those things being front lift.

NCM will install the Scrape Amour Grill Guards. They installed mine during R8C Delivery and it was perfect. You'll love the delivery program, they do a fantastic job.

I wish I really would have understood just how terrible the dealership experience is.

Yeah I would trust them, Criswell, MM, and Ciocca do it.

Just pointing out they are not factory installed so thought of trust must be taken

I’ll second the stealth interior. The silver trim doesn’t look as high end.

OEM is always a preferred option, however on the CF they do not offer all the exterior pieces that after market companies do. I read several post that the OEM CF parts have a little yellow tint. I was concerned if I went with OEM and I used an after market company for the rest, the CF might not match. And the other reason, I would have spent twice as much.
I installed everything myself and I think it looks great. I also enjoy turning the wrench.

All good man and I understand/appreciate your approach as well. Yes, I do recognize there are good carbon vendors, more options after market and similar carbon upgrades could be cheaper in up front cost via aftermarket.

Interesting, thus far, I don't see any yellowish on the OEM carbon on mine. Maybe that happens over time.

I guess I'm coming from the notion of spending tons of money building and modding previous cars, including interior and exterior carbon. Money I never got back when selling the car.

This is the first car that I bought (already depreciated) that has pretty much all the options and exposed carbon I could ever want -- wheels, full exterior, level 2 interior, etc. Perhaps this approach will not only save me from myself (spending stupid money modding as I usually do), and perhaps, just perhaps, those OEM options on the build sheet will carry a bit more value (vs aftermarket stuff) the day I go to sell. As of now, I literally can only find about $5k worth of stuff I want to do to this car. That's a welcomed first!

Different paths...and I bet yours looks great. Cheers.

+1 on 1LZ trim and also on skipping front lift feature.

So true. And how annoying it is that you can't just go to any Chevrolet dealer for a small issue. You need to find one with Corvette specialists who are trained in specific areas of the car. I ended up having to find one super far from me in LA for a transmission issue.

This will be a street car. We have the Viper for road course and a Miata for auto cross.

Then definitely get all the creature comforts you think you may want. I would get minimum 2LZ to have the heated/ vented seats and front cameras.

I wouldn't do anything different as I custom ordered the car exactly the way I wanted. That being said. I would take a second look at the following options for your build before making your order as some have already stated. I personally think that the color choices you picked out is one of my favorite. It looks awesome in person.

1. Stealth interior Option.
2. Contoured liner protection package
3. Scrape Armor Grills --- Just get it
4. Black Lug Nuts
5. Carbon Fiber Exposed - This is a personal thing. Be sure to see in person before you order. You really cant go wrong with carbon flash or exposed fiber

Here is a picture of exposed carbon fiber

All OEM carbon fiber has golden/yellow hue from the factory on day one. Its the design. Its that way on day one. You will never notice unless you take an aftermarket carbon fiber piece and place beside it.
