Default [OT] India - The festival of Holi.

"Happy Holi" is the greeting exchanged during this "holi" day.
Holi - the festival of colors, is predominantly a Northern India celebration which marks Spring, but we were "Rockin' in the South" with it. We had a block party at the complex and all the towers participated.

It is traditional to "color" people and the significance is that when we all become colored, race, color or religion no longer bear any significance - only friendship. How cool is that? So when you hug someone, you share colors and become friends. I made a lot of friends today. Now here is the religious meaning. Oh yea, still no Vette in sight...

I had a freaking BLAST! Here is my link for photos if you want it:

The spirit of Holi, say historians, are essentially colours. Scriptures say Lord Krishna played Holi with colours made from 'tesoo' flowers. He smeared villagers of Braj Bhumi - the land to which he belonged to in Uttar Pradesh - with coloured powder and sprayed fountains of red, green, yellow and blue water till the towns of Vrindavan, Mathura, Barsana, and Govardhan were bathed in colour.

Mathura and its adjoining towns that make up the Braj Bhumi have been a melting pot of the myriad colours of Holi and its accompanying spiritual genres for the last 5,000 years.

How do they spray those different colours on people? Spray guns, or do they just throw colours of paint on each other?

You didn't mention it, but isn't this the festival of colour which celebrates the beginning of spring?

Love the riot of colours.

What's with the kite-like cards? What are they? They look very creative.

The colours are fanastic.

Thanks again for sharing... so different.

Thank you Bill. yes it marks Spring. The colours are vegetable based dyes and my t-shirt is ruined or perhaps a new memento/souvenir. I had to use a ziplock bag or ruin my camera. The colours are powder based and many add water and put them in water guns. At the end of the "Holi" day, the shirts are often torn off. Ya, I really enjoyed this.

I have finally figured out iPhoto (lost Aperture in a rebuild) and you throw this curve at me. Oh and I did get a .Mac account and post the photos to my web gallery.

Thanks E.
