Default Detailing our vettes.. What are you using?

It's time for me to start cleaning my vette.

What are you using? (and why, your results, your process)

1. for wax. (exterior)
2. interior, vinyl
3. interior, leather seats
4. rubber mouldings
5. tires
6. rims

etc.

I'll start off, I'm in love with the
www.theworldsbestwax.com
Been using it for about 5 years. No zanio for me.

Easy to put on and take off. Fair price. Nice even shine.

What is everyone using for the vinyl interior on the doors, top console etc.?

Let us know. It's time to clean-up our cars.

There seems to be so much junk out there, that can even damage our cars. Let us know what to watch out for too.

Please post.

I use Zaino for everything basically. For interior vinyl I have the Meguiers stuff from Canadian Tire.

Meguiars Tech Wax 2.0 and then Ultimate Detailer to give it more shine...this is a very popular combination...

I use this: http://carpolish.ca/zaino/products/z7.html

Or if I'm stripping off everything on a car that hasn't been done before, I use Dawn detergent to get rid of all the old stuff.

Wash...

1) Meguiars car wash soap (purple stuff)
2) Leafblower (especially on the CCW's)
3) Microfiber to finish

Wax..

Maybe a coat of Zaino Z5 or Z2, NXT or a good carnuba. Honestly, I dont wax my car a lot but I swear no matter which of the above I use, it looks great at the end. I use a Porter cable usually once a year too just to help minimize swirls marks

Inside...
Armorall Wipes on dash
Zaino Leather stuff

That's what I use and it makes my black paint shine amazingly and the NXT 2.0 does a fantastic job at hiding minor swirls and scratches too.

As far as shampoo goes, I like the cheap Meguiar's stuff (Deep Crystal), I find it does a better job than their more expensive Gold Class car wash (which I find leaves behind these little blotchy/sticky spots on the paint after you use it) But Walmart also recently was selling a big jug of Turtle Wax Platinum car wash real cheap (I think they discontinued it maybe?) so when my Deep Crystal runs out I'm gonna try that next.

Once or twice a year I also go over the finish with my UDM polisher in order to remove some of the swirls and scratches. My favorite thing to use (thanks to Bill aka auctiondepot) is Meguiar's Scratch-X believe it or not. It works very well as a minor compound and is very easy to remove (unlike most compounds which I find are a real bear to remove) Meguiar's #9 swirl remover and their #80 compound also work well at removing some scratches (but are a bear to remove as mentioned above)

What do you use to clean-up the baked in and caked on dirt on your chrome exhaust pipes?

Bill, why are you worried about which detailing products to use, you're going to sell or trade in the vette you currently have in 3 months anyways!

Couldn't resist that one!

washing: Simple green car wash

exterior quick detailer: Mothers showtime instant detailer

interior vinyl: Mother's preserves protectant

interior leather: Meguiars Gold Class Leather wipes

tires: Meguiars Hot shine tire spray

wax: Mothers carnauba wax

stainless/aluminum/chrome polishing: Wicked metal polish, Wicked myst metal maintainer, Bue Magic liquid metal polish, Mothers powerball mini and full size powerball

stainless/aluminum scratch removal: Mothers powerball mini md with Mothers scratch removal polish

glass: Stoners invisible glass

carpet: Turtle wax power out carpet cleaner

secret weapon all purpose cleaner: Spray nine cleaner

I usually go through at least a gallon of Spray Nine in a driving season! It is hands down the best cleaner I have ever used. I use it on the paint, tires, rims, and all my chrome and polished metal. It removes road grime, oil, grease, brake dust, and just about anything else you can think of with absolute ease! If you are familiar with my car, then you know it is detailed to a very high level, including the entire undercarriage, and Spray Nine is how I do it and keep it that way. The only thing to remember when using it is do not let it dry on the surface you have sprayed it on.

The undercarriage of my vette for reference:

I wish I had your patience Bruce, I'm getting to the point where it's through the "touchless" car wash and drive on.

Wash - Meguiars Gold

Mothers showtime instant detailer after washing

interior vinyl: Mother's preserves protectant for vinyl & tires

Now if I would just get off my butt and use these products I would have my car all cleaned up and ready to go!

That's what the bottom of my car looked like before driving in the rain almost every day last summer! Hoping for a much drier summer. I think I'll try that Spray Nine on the underside.

Usual things for the wash part/ Leaf blower and all that microfiber.

I did start to use World's Best Car Wax with my UDM and blown away by the result after having been a die-hard Zaino guy.
