Default 59 Corvette project being auctioned

Saw this on Kijiji. Auction is Mar 5 in Milton. Thought maybe someone may be interested or live nearby to check out what it goes for.

Thats a total gut and resto. Serious work involved in that bad boy. I'll go to see it. Curious to see what it gets bid up to. Not sure how the whole no ownership thing will work though. How do you retitle a car with no ownership?

I think you just buy a VIN tag for that model and your good to go

It can be done but if I remember you need the help of a JP for the paperwork (I think the CAA office is one stop shopping for this)

What intrigues me about this is that if it goes cheap enough I would seriously consider buying it as a hell of a project and it would be a retirement gift to myself because thats likely when I would finish it but I otherwise love the 59 vette. Reality says I can't afford it though and it's a pipe dream if I think I could find the time to restore a car.

It would be a nice project but I have enough of those already and no time to do them.

It looks to be pretty complete (maybe the front trim pc is in the trunk) unlike some old cars you find that someone has started on and then given up. Wonder if the front corner has been hit where it's primed? Pc of trim missing on the cove too.

Any guesses as to what it'll sell for? 15-20k?

If there's a reserve, I would bet that it does not sell. However, put me in at $17,500.

I love the C1's, but there's too much work in that one for me. Just to get it presentable would cost $30k to $50k. For that kind of money plus the purchase price you can buy a very nice driver. Check out the C1 "For Sale" page to get an idea.

Says it was stored for 37 yrs. That means it was driven for about 14 yrs. I would guess that the 10k on the odo is at least 110k. If it's rust free and has no damage then it might be worth the effort if bought for 15-20k. It's fairly base model though with a single 4bbl, stick, so maybe a 3spd. Would be good for a resto-mod build. If it's complete then it's fine but I wouldn't want to have to spend a lot of work finding missing parts. Then there's the doc's issue to deal with.

A friend of mine is going to look at this, but he works on these for a living. Hmm no pics of frame, all those years just sitting are rarely a good thing unless stored properly and it doesn't look like that was the case. For most it is much cheaper to buy an existing restored C1,2 or 3 then try to do it yourself. Did it once with 1Cuda vert and a Superbird and we were lucky enough to make $ on them, would not want that nightmare and stress again and these were with ppl. who knew what they were doing, owned their own resto. shop etc.

I asked about reserve, paperwork and condition. Response from auctioneer:

Family has not found ownership yet however a affidavit will be provided at the Auction. No Inspection has been done. Sold as found condition.
There has been so much interest that the market will determine the value based on its condition.
Thanks

Default 1959 Corvette

Looks like a fun car to clean up and get running. With all that patina who would worry about where you parked it. Great conversation piece and driver.

Was out and looked at the car. Lots of guys checking it out with lots of opinions.

Seems there is no VIN stamp on the block so uncertain if engine is original.

Looked like most parts are there, the missing chrome from the front is there. A radio **** is missing, couple of reflectors/lenses broken or missing. Interior is rough to say the least.

Had incorrect wheels and didn't see original wheels or hub caps anywhere though. Spare was there.

Looked solid to me.

Ownership and a key had been located.

Still deciding if I'll head back at 1 to see what it sells for.

Any guesses? From the pics and description I would say it goes for $21000.

I would guess $21K to $26K... Then probably at least another $45K to $50K to get it the way it should look. At those numbers [$76K at the high end], I would think that you could get one that is in decent shape and running. But, if you're willing to do it over a three to four year period, then it might not be so bad. And money aside, bringing it back to life would be a whole lot of fun.

You'd have to get it for under 20k by a good bit (17.5k?) to make it worth restoring unless you just want a project to work on and it doesn't matter the cost. Having a complete car sure makes it easier though. From the look of it though it's a base model. If it was a 61 then I'd be into it as that's the yr my wife was born which makes spending the money a lot easier!

Anybody looked to see if it's a 3spd or 4 spd?

gdm78vette, you're in Milton so you are nominated to be there for the auction.

To many nice cars going for the upper $40-$50K range to make this project viable to get anywhere close to the $20K mark unless there is a special reason and money is not a consideration.
