Advice on 08 Z, 34K
So, have to make a decision tonight bfore putting down a deposit in the AM.
http://wwwb.autotrader.ca/result/add...howcpo=ShowCPO
Here's my dilemma, guys says he unavoidably hit and ran over a tire 3 years ago. Was fixed at Nurse, damage about 18K and will show up on Carfax. Replaced fender, front nose, bumper, rad so that's why so expensive. He was up front with me about it. Said damage only looked like a couple grand but that's what it was.
What do you think? Run? He seems like an honest guy, TTC driver in Oshawa, car is clean otherwise, looks great. Need to make a decision tomorrow AM
PS, he came down to 42K, but said with a"clean" carfax he would have asked 52k?!?!?!?!?!

So the car was basically a year (ish) old when he hit the tire?
What was it worth new?
What percentage of the purchase price was the repair job?
Is this a car you might need to sell in a few years? Would you buy a 3rd owner car with that much previous damage?
I'd pass. Gotta be other not previously wrecked versions out there.
Ad says "never abused". Might be, but doesn't say never wrecked. At least he was upfront. Can you get him to put it on a frame alignment jig somewhere to check it out? Did you drive it?
How do the door and hood gaps look? Can you get any info from Nurse on the repairs? Photos? Any guarantee from Nurse on the work?

Have it checked out..... Take it to wilson niblet, they will go over mechanical and body work since they har their own body shop.... U pay for it and thats the only tome u will have piece of mind.... Or maybe champion can check it out also since they do both body and mechanical repair.
Thats the only way ull b 100 percent about the car

Problem is once its a "hit" car it will always be a "hit" car and the price will be affected when you want to sell.
Does he have the repair invoice from Nurse so you can see what was actually done.
I would want to have the car inspected by my mechanic and up on a hoist to have a look around.
Personally, I would pass and look for an unhit one, but good luck on whatever you decide.

Hey Mike. For that money, you should be able to find one that hasn't been damaged anywhere.
And you know, a car is never quite the same after a major hit.
Don't be in a rush to get into another car. It'll be hard to go without but prices will come down once the C7 is out in the fall. You might be able to get into a 2010 for the same price come winter.
Here's an '06 for $40k

And here's an '07 for $44

But whichever you choose, we're behind you all the way bud.

Might be Mike - I know it's a tough time of the year to be Vetteless though. I was also just thinking hitting a tire would not inflict that much suspension or front end damage - but hitting a tire still mounted on a rim would be a very different story - that could do all kind of damage incluing oil pan, frame etc.

With that much damage and $42k....pass. He can 'ask' whatever he wants, what someone is willing to pay is what it's worth.

Thanks guys, something smells here. Just texted him, asked we drive the car to a shop, put it up on a hoist and have the repair records to see what exactly was done.
He backed out, says he has "other interested buyers" WTF?
Sounds like I saved myself from some heartache

So whenever you buy any car just take to any decent shop pay 50-100 bucks and let them put on hoist and point out problems....its a good way to check the car out.
You did good mike.

It doesn't sound good at all.
Someone ran over the nose of my car in a parking lot. I claimed it through insurance. It's a '98 with 255,000km on it so it's worth nothing yet I still have the invoice for the repair. It was something like $3600 for nose, fender, headlight cover and headlight surround. You think someone who had repairs done on an almost new Vette due to road damage wouldn't keep the invoice? At 18k in repairs I'd think there is more damage than he's letting on so he's hiding it.
Generally, I wouldn't be too afraid of a vehicle with repairs if there was no structural damage. On a C5 or C6, I wouldn't buy if there were repairs to the frame or front inner wheel housings. Well, maybe if it was really cheap and checked out OK.
