my asking price for a C7

When it came time to choose the options for my car I decided against the NPP and the glass roof. As much as those two things would be nice, I don't find them absolute necessities.
Sorry to the OP for hijacking this thread

Hello folks,
I may consider a Z06(A8) next yr, and I am debating if I should sell my existing C7 privately vs trade-in. Curious what you think the realistic (private sale) asking price should be.
never been to the track, no burn-outs and never driven hard - I am assuming a GM dealer can plug it in and verify the RPMs have never been higher than what would be reasonable for responsible street driving.
Thanks

no problem Patman, always fun to read various C7 discussions
Or a GS ... the wide body is growing on me
all depends though.. if I can do a seamless deal @ $55k, I will probably go through with it, otherwise I will keep it 'til the C8 comes out.

Selling a Corvette privately can be a pain.
The 13% tax incentive on a trade-in generally makes up the spread of a private sale price and a dealer offering off the lot.
My 2 cents (plus tax )

Way too many time wasting test pilots & dreamers - let alone the low balling tire kickers - to make the private sale of a sports car worth your while.
Trade it in - take the tax saving - & you'll be way ahead!

The only way I'd sell my C6 privately is if someone I know on here wants it, and we would do the deal through the dealer so I could get the tax break too.

If someone pays $55,000 for your car they are getting an amazing deal! I honestly think you should try for more. Any time I've seen a C7 show up on Auto Trader in the $55k range, it quickly disappears within a day or two. Try for a little bit more, and only come down to $55k if you have to move it quickly.

I'm not sure what dealer you're purchasing from, but when I purchased my C7 from WilsonNiblet, they listed my trade-in on a national dealer auction site. I set a minimum and three days later I found out I received more than I asked for. I thought it was a fair price and almost as good as Private. The 13% more than offset it.

I bought my Z06 privately but the car was a trade for a new car. I met the seller at his house, checked the car out and settled on price. The dealership did all the paperwork. I paid the dealership not the seller. I even got a receipt from the dealer (which I've since lost).

How much: In most cases, buyers pay 13% RST in Ontario. The amount is based on the purchase price or the vehicle’s wholesale value, whichever is greater.

End game, makes it more of a don't care for the buyer to help you out by processing the deal through a dealer. You can use it as leverage on a private sale with the buyer as mentioned above by others. That is, by reducing your sell price a little and going through a dealer, the buyer's net price is lower than if they bought from you privately at your original asking price.
On a private sale, a sharp buyer would ask you to take some cash and a draft for the balance and convince you to agree to sign off on the wholesale value so that he saves on the tax paid to MTO. Whether you would agree to it or not is another thing.
WIN-WIN-WIN scenario is:
You sell your car at a slightly lower private sale price...
- You offset your HST owed as you effectively are trading in your car (i.e. you end up netting a higher sale price vs a private sale)
- Buyer has a lower net price vs doing a private deal
- Dealer makes some money processing the transaction for you
Hope that helps.

It has definitely been a while since I bought a car privately, 1991 in fact! Everything else since then was bought from a dealer. I also have not sold a car privately since 1998.

I purchased the car in New Brunswick. I paid 13% tax at the dealership. Because I paid the 13% in New Brunswick Service Ontario said they'd get the !3% from New Brunswick.
