I am a member of the NCRS Mid Atlantic chapter I just received this e-mail from our President about two traffic problems. If you are coming up I 81 from Virginia the first will affect you. The second one is in Pennsylvania on I 81 north of Shippensburg.
Please read and consider resending to all MAC members – and anyone else you think would want to know this.
FYI – I am on a personal road trip today, traveled North on I-81 through VA, then into West VA and then into PA and beyond Carlisle – I ran into 2 major traffic delays. If you are planning to attend Corvettes at Carlisle be prepared for MAJOR traffic delays in 2 places – the second is impacting traffic in and around Carlisle.
1. There is an “emergency bridge repair” on a bridge in West VA, on I-81 in the north bound lane. There are temporary signs up as far south as Harrisonburg VA alerting drivers to this delay in WVA. The delay is significant, about 90 minutes – it is down to one lane. No way to get around it – many trucks and cars bailed off of 81 and on to Rt 11 north – it was a mess. The repair work does not look like it will be completed any time soon – highly recommend factoring additional time into your trip – also recommend calling WVA DOT and inquire if work is complete.
2. This one was worse that the first and there were no warning signs. We had smooth sailing from WVA to just north of Shippensburg PA on I-81. Then, about 10 miles north of Shippensburg traffic came to a complete stop – we were 9 miles from Carlisle and exit 44, it took 3 (THREE) hours to go those 9 miles. We got off at exit 44 for a rest stop at a gas station – this is the same exit you would use to go to the fairgrounds. I spoke to a local in the restaurant. He said there is construction on I-81 just north of exit 44, they are installing a pipe line – has been going on for weeks – will not be completed soon. Not only is traffic on I-81 north all jammed up, it also is affecting traffic flow on all roads leading into Carlisle and within Carlisle as well. This will definitely frustrate travelers during Corvette days at the fairgrounds, regardless where you are staying or what direction you are coming from. Again, I would recommend that someone call the PA DOT and ask when the work on I-81 just north of exit 44 will be done.

FYI, those "delays" never affected us all weekend. Worst traffic we saw on the whole trip was on the QEW from Grimsby to Hamilton yesterday. Even with that we made it back in 7 hours.

Another terrific outing to Carlisle .. the group was a little smaller this year but large on the laughs and good times. I was able to find some new routes to get to the park, none of which we want to share. Having said that, we did get back to the hotel in short order on Saturday afternoon, it was the "getting there" piece which was interesting (3 GPS's .. 3 Different routes .. 3 Guys shouting on the radios turn here, turn there !! lol
Not many pictures , but here you go
Gus and Bruce stopping for a quick snack ... only the 2 of us heading back via the usual route, the others were headed to Picton. Could not resist on that last picture .. won't tell you who was driving it (male or female)

Just got back this weekend after another great eastern US road trip including a 15th straight year for Jennie and I together at Corvettes at Carlisle (we spent a week afterwards visiting friends and touring rural New Jersey.) Such great weather!
Kept an eye out for familiar Toronto faces at the funfield or around town, but didn't see anyone this year. Looks like those who went had a great trip!
Anyone know who organized the "Funtown" Canadian Embassy?
Going to have to check them out next year!
We started out real early on Wednesday, which I guess is now unofficially the new first day of Carlisle. Got up at 2am to leave in time for a pre-scheduled new convertible top installation by Al Knoch Interiors. SO glad I did it there!
My last AK top lasted 18 years, but it never fit well. Those who've seen me in my car know I hardly ever use the top anyway - cold or rain - now understand why! The old top fit too tightly and the frame never sat level over the windows. For years I've blamed the installer for the misfitting top, but as it turned out the real issue was just a worn, twisted soft-top frame. Fortunately, it being Corvettes at Carlisle, we were able to source a brand new frame onsite and the top install was completed by Thursday. Turned out great! New top (and new frame) now fits perfectly with no squeeks or rattles. The install was done by Gilbert, one of Al Knoch's long time (+25 years) specialists. So awesome to watch the job done by a well-practiced expert!
BEST NEW FIND!!!- A new Mexican/El Salvadorean restaurant called Dona Eli’s Mexican Cuisine just opened in June. They're located right where the parade begins on N. Hanover Street. They had three patio tables out front where we watched Saturday's parade from. Brought our own cooler with chilly margaritas and Bud Light lime (beergaritas!) to share. Best seats in town for the parade, and we chowed down on some of the best tacos and Mexican food we've found in Carlisle ever. Here's a link for future reference : https://dona-elis-mexican-cuisine.business.site/
Once the parade had passed and dinner enjoyed - we topped up our travel cups and walked the route where the cars had parked. What a fantastic crowd! The locals (kids included) were all on-point - welcoming us and sharing the fun with all these Corvettes on the street. It's always the people that makes every year at Carlisle so special. The town really turns out!
Our campground cabin is already reserved and paid for next year, which will be my 20th year with the car, just havin' fun!
As the sign says, LIFE IS GOOD!
