I ordered a new 1998 Formula in 1998 and my break in on that was similar to yours, with only 50km on the odo I raced a Mustang on the highway and had it up to the redline in 4th gear. I also took about 5 or 6 different friends for a drive that first day and each one got treated to a full throttle blast, redlining the first three gears. At just one week old I made my first trip to the dragstrip and made about 12 or 13 passes that day. In total I made about 250 quarter mile runs in the 2.5 years I had it. It never used oil between changes. But it only had 44,000 km on it when I traded it, so I have no idea how long that engine lasted. I think the roads are much too cold for that kind of treatment to my C7, although I'm taking it out again today and will be a bit more aggressive with the throttle

But yes, a little on the chilly side today (for the tires) ..... and let's face it, there's a slight difference in power between the original LS1 and the latest "LT1" ..... I couldn't believe the difference going from my '02 LS1 Z28 to my 2010 LS3 C6 ... WOW!

Ahhhh............ I am SO looking forward to spring this year!!!

I put another 185km on it today! It was still a little too cold to really push it, although I did a half throttle launch from a dead stop and it pulled quite nicely! The long range forecast looks promising for another chance to drive it possibly on Friday and/or Saturday. I'm going to make the most of these dry semi-warm days while I can!

We are closing in on spring very fast! Almost February, once mid February is here it's basically over in my mind! I'm getting a cam installed once the nice weather hits so I'm counting the days!

Default Better Late Than Never

Went for a drive today, filled the tank, washed the car, and put it away for the winter.

Pat, when you put more than 23,500 km on in a year, you might top the list.

At first I will only be doing about 10,000 a year but once I retire and start driving to Florida every winter, plus all the other road trips I'll be taking, I figure I'll be doing about 40,000 a year at least.

Long story, while in stop-go traffic (DVP) suddenly low oil pressure warning was displayed . Drove to Port Perry (mechanic) in early November found broken main bearing. Re-built engine plus other stuff, car was ready mid-January.

Because salt KILLS cars. As much as it sucks to wait, I don't want to subject my Vette to salt. Also, performance tires are outright dangerous in cold weather. Not worth it for me personally.

There isn't really any salt on the roads here, they might look whitish but it's leaving no residue behind on my car that I can see. I get the performance tire issue though, I have to baby mine just to be safe (but when these tires wear out I'll get all season Michelin Pilots so I can be safer in sub 10C weather) I would just go insane if I had to keep my car parked for the entire winter, that's far too long for me.

That totally sucks. My previous LS7 had a similar failure a few years ago, and it was down for the better part of 2 months as well.

I was just laughing at the irony of "parking the car for winter" and it's already January ... and winter has practically come and gone (...although I think there's still a bunch more to come! ).

Glad that Dave got it all fixed up for you, and now you'll be ready to roll when the nice weather comes to stay .
