Default Ontario 2019 licence renewal in March

My 2 year corvette plate licence expires on March 26 and requires a Drive Clean emissions test. However this requirement ends on April 1

Do you know if I can just delay the sticker renewal until April, therefore no test required?

What say you?

I asked the same question at Service Ontario and they said to call the Drive Clean number. Since the program is being cancelled, I don't expect testing will be done after April 1st.

You can delay it as long as you want...........you pay for the remaining months only until the next time they are due. My birth date is Feb.........I get my sticker in May, save 3 months $$

Red you sure that is right? I thought they stopped doing pro rated licences. I have had no luck with it.

Golfer, good luck on the emissions test. My gut feeling is you are going to have to get it done as dumb as that sounds.

They don't pro rate license stickers anymore it will still cost the same amount for that sticker whether you get it on the day of your birthday or 6 months later.

Delaying your license sticker just means when you do go to get that sticker you'll have to safety your car again and bring in the paperwork before they issue you the sticker.

Makes we wonder about my 97 Ford F250 that was my dad's.

Its in mint shape and is in storage. Never saw winter. It was due for renewal in May 2018 but was in storage then. I will get it out in May 2019 and sell it. Hope that they do not want another year's worth of sticker cost on top of the new year that I have to pay. It was safetied just before storage for 19 months.

Get a temp sticker when it's time but being in storage all this time and safetied almost 2 years ago chances are they might want another one.

I figured that. No problem.

I wanted to keep the truck but really have no use for it. Its our 4th vehicle for 2 drivers.

I didn't renew my sticker for 2 years, when I went to I just had to pay for the 2 years. A safety is not required and you have to pay for a full year not the remaining months.

I'm also hoping that my sticker replacement after April 1st will not require the emission test, since i did the exhaust work the engine light stays on and that's what they like to see.

They are no longer pro-rating you when you get a plate?
But they pro rate you when you turn your plates in (I just did that on my dads old car).
NICE cash grab.,

I would just wait until April to renew.

They do not pro rate the price of the stickers anymore. They did, but not any more.

Yup, as long as there is no change in ownership of the vehicle, a safety is not required. Doesn't matter how long.

Sorry to chime in so late. I haven't been on the forum for a bit.

I need to renew March 30th, and need a Drive Clean two days before the program expires (not on the Vette as it doesn't require one anymore) , so I called MTO. What I was told, seems totally stupid, but here goes. I was told my car needs a Drive Clean (Period). Doesn't matter when I renew my sticker, be it April, May, or months later, the car MUST have a Drive Clean (Period). By not getting a Drive Clean, and delaying it, I run the risk that I won't find a place who can still perform one, and, as was told, MUST have one before they will renew my sticker, regardless when that might be. So, I intend to go to my local MTO office, where they know me, and get a second opinion.

If I need one, then my only option will be to pull the car from storage on a nice March day, and have it done somewhere.

That sounds like a stupid statement that MTO would say, but how are you supposed to get a Drive Clean test if there won't be any computers/testers around to do it?
I say, delay and if they tell you to get a test done, ask them how and where.

Total BS, an MTO person said that they can issue a temp sticker (mine expired in DEC 18) so i can get the e test done in April, Where i'm not sure but what else can you do??? I'll probably have to have a tune done to get rid of the light.
