California Duster.....good or bad?
Hey guys, just like the title says.....is the california car duster good or bad? Bad meaning, scratch paint or leave marks. I'm thinking about getting one for my '03 black Z. It looks really good, and I'd probably use it most often after the car has been recently washed or waxed. I wouldn't be driving around for several weeks, letting it accumulate dirt, then attempt to dust it off. I believe that would leave scratches. Anyone have experience with the california duster? How (which situations) do you use it, and do you recommend having one. Thanks.

I get a lot of sand on the car in the Desert.
I use the duster fairly regularly and never suffer from scratches.
Blot it on newspaper when new to take out some of the initial parafin like substance they use to treat it. Then leave it be. Shake it before use but dont wash it. The dirtier the better.
Its a cheap but effective tool
By the way, the Dash Duster is great too

I use 3 dusters. The big one for my C5's body. A small dash duster on my dash/interior. And a second Dash Duster reserved for polished wheels. Love them all !

I use three as well. Many threads have been started about them over the years, and the bottom line is 99% who have used them love them.

The Car Care Discussion section of the Forum is the best place to go for answers to these type questions:
Questions about CAR CARE: wax, window cleaners, etc...
There has been any number of threads on the California Car Duster there in the past. Here are a few of the more recent ones:
california duster..
california duster..
My California Mega Duster review.
Dust driving me crazy
California Duster Myth or Truth
Cali Duster questions
Hope this helps!

Pretty brash words. Just because I'm new to the corvette world, doesn't mean I don't know anything. The last time I checked, corvettes came with the same basecoat/clearcoat paint system as any other late model car on the road.
I worked my way through college working in the paint dept of a top notch body shop, that happened to be over 5 years. I was on the long term degree plan. I can do amazing things with sandpaper and a buffer.
Obviously, california dusters don't put major scratches in the clear; but every time the car is mitted, chamoised, or california dusted it is scratched. That is why whenever I wash my cars, I use as new as mitt as possible and a california wiperblade (great invention).
Kudos to you or anyone else who uses a duster and gets the results said here by you and other forum members.

Safety Car
Only use a minimal amount of pressure and shake the Duster out frequently......and that should leave a scratch free finish. Been using mine for almost a year and it's great.

If you are going to TAG my quote, you need to add a closing tag !!!. You suck at HTML language too... AS far as a top notch shop, and your experience with a California duster, you must have got some of that sandpaper you use in the Duster... Just another tip... You dont come in here, in a thread filled with positive comments by Sr members of this forum, and Post stuff you obviously know nothing about... Some of us have been doing this stuff for 45 years....While it is perfectly OK to disagree with everyone else here, you have to expect some comeback from people who know something about cars. Sucking at HTML language is just a little tease... kind of like a welcome to the forum hug...
