Default Leaving Wax on overnight?

I claybarred and waxed my car today. Its getting too late and don't have enough light to make sure I get all the wax off correctly. Can I leave the wax on overnight without having any problems?

What wax are you using?

I've left some cauruba on for a few hours once and it still came off okay.

Synthetics are usually pretty forgiving. You should be fine (for what it's worth at this late hour).

NXT - no problem.
In fact the problem with NXT is that it does take some time to dry - if you try to go at it too soon, it just smears all over the place and leaves you with a mess. You'll be fine.

Thanks a lot for your advice, I also followed your recommendations for claybarring too. To be honest it didn't even seem to do much for the shine on my car. I soaked the area that I was working on and it didn't seem any smoother after the clay bar use or even shinier!

It won't be shinier after the clay, if anything duller. It should be smoother, if not you either didn't work it correctly, or it wasn't necessary.

Did you feel it with a baggy or just with your skin??

You can't always feel the contamination with your softer skin, unless it's really bad, but if you stick your hand in a sandwich baggy you can feel the roughness of the contamination. You should try that and then see if you can feel a difference before and after.

You should be ok providing it is inside and not getting any abrasive dust on it.

Claybarred and used Meguires NXT but not as shiny as I thought it would come out, like I have seen other cars posted here. Something I didn't do? Any advice?

ideas to give you that fantastic wet look.:
  1. give a quick spray of their newest Meguiars quick detailer - getting good reviews, though I don't use it myself.
  2. some time in the future, try 3M imperial hand glaze - one coat of that just before you apply your NXT.
  3. don't look at your car until 1 or two hours before sunset
  4. only take photos in the setting sun
  5. take digital photos, open the pics in a picture editing software program (I use Paint Shop Pro XI), and use the tools to "sharpen" the image.

number 1 and 2 above won't have any durability, but will make the car look great for the weekend.

numbers 3, 4, and 5 are cheating, but like bodybuilding - showcars are part illusion

Was the paint properly prepped using a good SSR like ZPC and a ROB? Pending on what it needs you may be able to get by with something like Z-AIO by hand first.

I don't like leaving any polish/wax on any longer then necessary. I remove it as soon as it is dry. Before it is removed polish/wax is not very slick and susceptible to holding any dirt and dust that may fall on it. Then when you remove the polish/wax you will be scratching your paint. As far as the polish/wax itself is concerned I don't believe that leaving it on for even days will harm your paint nor do I believe there is any benefit to it.

I would never leave wax on longer then needed.
Dust & airborne dirt can settle on your wax surface.
All you need is one spec to scratch the surface as you buff the wax out the next day.

I would wipe off NXT as soon as possible, its durability is but a few days so enjoy it for as long as you can

I'm the first to admit that I'm negatively biased against this product, this was partly due the hype when it was brought to market, and generally I think its a sub-standard product

That's why I'm glad Meguiar's came out with their M21 Synthetic Sealant, as it's got all the same properties as NXT (darkens the paint, buffs off easily, hides minor imperfections very well) but it's also very durable!
