Default New member - question about waxing

I bought my first Vette today, and I couldn't be more excited. It's a black 2008, auto, with less than 2k miles. I was told by the dealer that waxing the car this early in the car's life will damage the paint on the car. His reasoning was that the clear coat on the car is still in good shape and that waxing the car will permanently dull its color. I've heard this before, but I have no idea as to its truth, so I thought I'd come straight to the source. Agree or disagree?

Absolutely not true. All Vette panels are prepainted before delivery (of parts) to the Bowlingreen plant where the Vette is assembled. You can polish / wax as soon as you want.

What is truly ironic is other dealers will try to sell you their "special" polish as part of the sales effort...unbelieveable !

Good news...now that you've bought the Vette you no longer need any "dealer" advice. thumbs:

When faced with the eternal question, "drive or wax?" 9 out of 10 times I will drive!

Go ahead and wax! meguires NXT 2.0 IS the good stuff, Rejex is good too!

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I know which wax I'll be purchasing in the near future.

First I'd kick the dealer in the clam and use him as a ski. Then I'd clay the entire vehicle since I didn't know the conditions of the first couple thousand miles. Last... NXT2.0.

Ha, well as an attorney, I'm pretty sure that his representation to me regarding the use of wax is not a serious enough misrepresentation to have our contract/agreement voided. But ya, are there any car dealers and/or salesmen in this country that aren't smarmy?

Attorney huh?? Maybe I should get to know you better.

Smarmy? Haven't heard that in awhile. Almost too polite when it comes to car salesman.

I waxed mine 6 days after it was built. nxt, rejex and adams buttery wax all seem to be great products (i have tried them all, they seem to be very similiar and all very good shine and coverage) Do a clay bar (to strip any goo and wax from the first 2k) then wax it and you are good to go. welcome and enjoy the forum. paul

if you're not fond of waxing use zaino as it seems to have the greatest endurance [or how about 'durability' instead] . anything else i've tried had me waxing every couple of weeks and i'm to old for that .

Not true, enjoy your Vette and if want to try a good wax I have two suggestions, Adam's Buttery Wax or Nattys Red Paste Wax. Good Luck.
