Default How to remove water marks from aluminum radiator

I had a pretty big overflow out of the radiator filler/cap on my 68 while burping air from a thermostat fix... Now I have some nasty white drip marks on the polished aluminum radiator tank and the aluminum oil tank next to it. I tried a bunch of things from Simple Green to wheel cleaner, glass cleaner, simichrome, etc etc and nothing short of scotchbrite seems to touch it, and that is causing more harm than good.

Any ideas? I even tried some heavy duty aluminum cleaner for big rigs from autozone, the stuff works great on the a-arms and castings but isn't touching this.

Thx, Dan

Clycol (anti-freeze) white-stains aluminium and damages clear coated and powder coating finishes.

You'll need to polish with an abrasive to remove the 'staining'

Can you post any pics?

Without pics and based on your description I would use "0000" steel wool with Adam's Metal Polish #1.

The finish in radiator overflows is pretty soft which means that it stains easy, but is *usually* pretty easy to correct with the right products and tools.

I'd step up to a dedicated metal polish with maybe a small attachment on your DA(if you have one).

Thanks, I'll try and get some pics up tonight. I made it better with "lime-away" bathroom cleaner, I can't get much for power tools in without disassembly, it will make more sense with pictures. Thx Dan
