What is Zylon?
A guy that I know just bought a 2011 MB E-550 and the dealer insisted that they apply "Zylon" to protect the paint and he would never need to wax the car. This man is not a car guy and fell for it hook, line and sinker to the tune of $900.00. The dealer did a terrific brainwash on this guy so I was wondering what exactly is this snake oil they sold him.

Just a way to separate the masses from their money. My aunt got took by the same product sale. The fine print in the warranty paperwork stated she had to return to the dealership twice a year to "refresh" the coating. How many folks you reckon actually go back for that second coat? One coat probably runs them $25 with labor, so calculate the profit on that.

It's just another in an ever-growing list of dealer applied magical super duper coatings.
$900 is insane and any dealership should be ashamed for charging anyone that much.

Glad it was a MB and not a Corvette, I hope Corvette people are smarter than that.

It is indeed a paint sealant .... not even a coating !! The warranty included usually matches the new car paint warranty. I doubt it would be worthwhile even with a used car purchase.
