Default polish options

hey guys im looking for options on a polish for my silver Z06 . Im looking for somthing easy to use.I tried meguiers ultimate polish. The directions say do not let it dry. To wipe it off while wet but it is drying as i wipe it and leaving a film on the paint that is hard to remove. any suggestions?

is the Mckees easy to use? I have detail spray but need to polish. I have some light swirls i want to remove. Also the paint does not feel perfectly smooth. There are some surface contaminants i need to remove.

Very easy to use.

If the paint isn't smooth as you sad, it should be clayed.

So then the procedure would be

wash
clay
polish
protect

The C-6 Corvette has a very hard clear coat which is somewhat difficult to correct. For years I have used Menzerna polishes from Autogeek. It is a German based product which produces excellent results when used with a DA. After polishing then seal with your favorite sealer and topper. There are many products out there but I have found Menzerna to be the best for hard clear coat cars.

Thanks for the info guys. My Z06 is a c5. I plan on claying. And have done it before. It's the polishing that was giving me fits. No matter how small an area I do the polish dries and leaves a residue.

After polishing and before applying your LSP, do a 50/50 mix of distilled water and IPA with some clean microfibers. This will remove the oils left behind by polishing and will maximize adhesion. There are products out there like CarPro's Eraser that do the same function.
As stated above from Cmonkey-I myself find the Menzerna line to be the best for me and my techniques. I was made for the MB's ceramic clear coat.

Are you going to machine polish? Do you have a lot of swirls or scratches, Or just wanting your paint to pop?

Corvettes regardless of C5/C6 or C7 have some of the hardest clear coats in the industry and makes removing even light swirls pretty challenging. If you are not using a polishing machine you will not get the swirls removed. Best you can hope for is to glaze over them and hide them till next wash.

Even with an orbital buffer you'll only remove some of the swirls but maybe enough to make you happy. There's several good heavy cutting compounds now that are good for this and still finish down nicely.

Meguiares M100 and M105 with a heavy cutting pad are good for this, also Menzerna SIP is another good polish with a cutting pad I would use after the two heavy cut compounds.

Removing swirls off a Vette is no easy task, take your time and do each panel until you're happy with it, then move to the next. Give yourself a few days for this project and don't rush it.

I just tried to polish my C6 that has some scratches and swirls. Use Wolfgang total swirl remover and followed with Wolfgang finishing polish. Used the porter cable. Thinking I need something with more cut. A lot of it came out. The tougher imperfection are still there. Overall it looks very good but not perfect

Meguiars D300 w/ their microfiber cutting discs did well on our black c5. Followed up with WG Finishing Glaze on white foam pad.

I would HEAVILY advise to watch the videos on Autogeek to give you an idea of what to do. If you go in blindly, at least for polishing your paint, you will be WASTING your time. Corvette's have a hard clear coat as it is, so removing defects isn't easy. Very important to know what you're doing. I wouldn't bother with a Porter Cable if you're wanting to correct Corvette paint; it's not powerful enough. Go with the Flex 3401. If not that, pick up a Harbor Freight DA(more powerful than the PC) for cheap, quality compound and microfiber cutting pads.

Look for Glen E 's docs on how to do it.

Not as tough as you think

Autogeek seemed to indicate the pc would work. I did watch the videos and called them. After fooling with it and the wolfgang swirl and polish i think it worked to some extent. It did not remove all the defects and overall it was a lot of work. Tend to agree the pc da polisher is not powerful enough for the vette clearcoat. Mine is looking very good with only some minor defects and i will have to live with it or hire a pro next time.

A pc will work. You will need to adjust your pad/polish choice and it will take more time.

Simple.
