Default Detailing a '99 C5

Hi guys, I am looking to polish my car with a DA Polisher, has anyone done this before and if you have, what pads and compounds do you recommend? Thanks!

Never polished my C5 but have done quite a few cars with a DA, and used Zaino Z-5 with good results. You will get tons of different answers and opinions, though.

Zaino Z5 is not a polish or compound (even though it says "polish" on the bottle) and will not give any amount of paint correction. Zaino Z5 is simply a paint protection sealant.

Most people will prob tell you go with the least aggressive process and gradually step it up and they are right but I've detailed and polished hundreds of Corvettes and will tell you just step it up the first time and you'll save yourself a lot of work.

However if you're new to this all you may want to practice on another vehicle till you get the feel of it down and know how to handle the DA and compounds....

If you're not too afraid I would use a yellow or orange cutting pad and Meg's 105. It's a pretty aggressive compound but finishes down very well plus your C5 vette has a very hard clear coat and will require a harsh compound to really see good correction with a DA machine.

A popular choice is Meg's 105 then 205 for a second step.

Good luck.

Josh

If you are new to using a Dual Action polisher go to the Autogeek web site and watch the how to videos. You can learn all about it and the videos will answer allot of questions concerning polishing and surface prep. The general steps are:
Wash
Clay
Polish
Seal
Wax

If'n you're new to this, likely wanna stay away from M105 as it can be a bit peculiar if not familiar wirh it.

When I started out wirh a Griots Garage 6" DA, Megs D300 with their Microfiber Cutting discs did some heavy lifting on our black 2004, outdid M101 (like M105 but easier to use) on yellow foam.

Follow up with something like Jescar Finishing Polish on white foam.

If ya don't need anything that heavy, Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover is a nice, easy medium polish, orange pad LC perhaps?
