What soap do you use when car is dirty?
Hi all,
I usually use Meguiars dry wash to wash my C5, however I have been DD it the last couple weeks and have gotten caught in the rain. Car is dirtier than I would like to admit. What soap do you guys use/recommend? I have seen Zaino praised highly, but it looks rather expensive and intensive to use.. So I am wondering if anyone has experience with anything else that they really like, Meguiars, Rain-X, Griot's, Mothers, Armour All, etc?

I use a variety, depending on what I have planned for after the wash...
Clay barring or polishing afterwards?
Adam's Polishes "Strip Wash"
Waxing or sealing afterwards?
Nanoskin "Nano Suds"
Chemical Guys "Mr. Pink"
Adam's Polishes "Car Shampoo"
Quick wash and dry?
Meguiar's "Ultimate Wash & Wax"
Meguiar's D113 "Citrus Wash & Wax"
3D Products "Wash & Wax"
Oh, and for some foam gun fun?
Adam's Polishes "Ultra Foam Shampoo"
Honest Wash "Fat Foamer"

I generally use Meguiar’s gold. I have tried some of the Chemical Guys and it was pretty good too. I have been testing some Adam’s recently and it seems okay too. I have also tried those and several others with my foam gun and don’t see much difference.

Another vote for Adam's. A little makes tons on suds and smells nice too.

I just used the Adam's foam gun with their car shampoo and what an amazing product. Tons of suds. Easy to use and clean up. Made washing the car fun again. I am not a fan of the combo wash/wax products. They work OK, but my philosophy is if you want a wax product there are better ones out there. Those products are not in contact with the surface long enough to do anything. Sorta like the "hot waxes" car washes apply.

Well, in their defense, they aren't meant to do anything other than add a small amount of gloss. I use both Meguiar's and 3D wash and wax soaps, and I like them for what they are. I usually use spray waxes after washing, but if I am rushed, the wash and wax soap and some spray detailer while drying leaves quite the shine.

I am not knocking the product at all. Most of us car detail enthusiast have a quality polish/sealant/wax on their cars so the soap is not doing much except removing the dirt. The wash process, two bucket, grit guards, quality wash mits/wool/etc IMO is more important. Gently remove the dirt and don't add any new fine lines. Don't let the soap dry and cause water spots. All soaps will do that, so I go back to my statement that the wash process is more important than the soap being used. Don't use dish soap obviously as it will remove the waxes and polishes we use to some degree. Quality drying towels are key. Don't want new scratches. The detailer is doing more for your shine than the soap is.

Personally, I think my cars have enough sealants and waxes on them that I could safely wash my car with Comet and steel wool.
