I cant help you with how to remove it from a C5... I have a C4.

But by removing it it will "loosen" up the front end permitting it to LIFT when you launch off the line ..thus giving you better weight transfer and you will have more weight on the rear wheels , thus preventing wheel spin..

My car is almost stock.. and with light wheels on the front, and 3.73s and a 3500 converter it lifts the front wheels off the ground..

Granted not a lot.. but the point is they are off the ground, & that means I have 100% of the cars weight on the rear wheels..

A lot of people will worry about how it will handle on the street.. As for myself and all of the people I know (6-8) who have made this mod.. none have have had handling problems on the street..

If you plan on AutoX or taking corners really HOT leave it on.. if Drags are your thing Take it off.. (its not hard to do) ,, you can always replace it..

However if you are not having traction problems, and you car is hooking up without wheel spin then leave it in .... unless you plan on more mods i.e. higher stall converter and gears...

Well I am not the best to explain the removal but I have done it several times.

You need a torx (I forget the size) bit to hold the bold while you turn the nut.

If your car is a dd you do not have to remove the sway bar. Remove the nut on the end link that connects to the lower control arm and push the end link free. When you are through racing reconnect the end link. Except for the weight reduction of removing the sway bar this will work just as well.

I'm curious about this. I don't understant how the front sway bar could effect weight transfer from front to rear. Can anyone explain this or point me to something that might explain it?

Thanks.

OK For example lets say your cars weight is exactly 50/50 (front & rear) and its spinning the tires when you launch..

IF you could lift the front end off the ground.. then you would have 100% of the cars weight on the rear wheels...

The sway bar is meant to keep the car level in corners etc... so it PREVENTS the front end from lifting on launch..

Have you ever seen an Indy car or an F1 car leaving the pits... they stay perfectly level, but spin the tires like hell... they don't care about the tire spin because they want to keep the weight = while they are cornering..

In Drag Racing you don't care about cornering..and you will see most FAST cars have the front end up or lifting.. this so all the weight will be put on the rear for traction.. The sway bar "PREVENTS" the front end from lifting, thus NO weight transfer to the rear, and that = LESS TRACTION.. a very important factor in Drag Racing..
