Melanie Troxel, & Gary Scelzi DQ from Event
Got this from another board.... Damn tough break for two good racers...
NORWALK, Ohio -- Funny Car drivers Gary Scelzi and Melanie Troxel were disqualified from the event today after NHRA Tech Officials discovered loose ballast in their cars following their qualifying runs. According to page 74 of the NHRA Rule Book, "any material used for the prupose of racing must be permanently attached to the car's body or above the rear tires. No liquid or loose ballast permitted. Discovery of loose or disguised ballast will result in disqualification from the event, regardless of whether infraction occurs during qualifying or eliminations."

Sounds like they may have tossed in a bag of steel shot. They did not deny tossing the weight in, and explained (Scelzi) that the scales vary across the country. Because they were still over minimum weight without the "loose" ballast, it should not affect them negatively. The rule book is clear though.
