Default Took my new vette to the track tonight for the first time!!

Hey guys,

I just bought a 1989 c4 vette this past weekend and i went to a local 1/8th mile strip to see how the car would do in it's stock form! Here were my results, i also have a vid or two i'll get up as well:

Here's the car:

Times were very consistent. I couldn't get my 60fts any lower with using the foot brake and stock torque converter the car just wanted to go! So i couldn't launch at any higher then 1400 -1500 rpms. Let me know what you think!

Looks good!

Believe it or not. With your stock converter if launch slower your 60' times will improve. I have a stock 87 that I raced with street tires all year this season. I launch at 1000 to 1100 rpms and I'm deep staged (I turn the top set of stage lights out) and my 60' times are 2.03X's t0 2.04X's. If I stage normally my 60' will drop to 1.97X's. If I try to increase my rpms to 1400 rpms my 60' time increases!

Also, what Bob said is correct!

Good luck to you!

Really! See i would have assumed the exact opposite. You'd think that if you leave hotter you'd hooker harder and get a better launch.

Well my goals are a bit loftier that 13's. I want to get into the 11's! I'd like to hit the 11.5 mark if possible with the right setup. I sold my 04' subaru wrx which was able to net me an 11.7 in the 1/4 mile to get something that would do better and plus i wanted to try out the v8 world instead of a turbo 4 for a change. I have a 383 build all lined up for this winter with a close friend who has built these and his own personal 383 so he's gonna school me in the ways.

I launch my 86 at 1000-1100 rpms, on sumitomo street tires, I can manage 1.92-1.95 60 foot times. Anything more the car wants to creep and then spins hard.

Alrighty well i'll try that next then! Yeah anything more and i was starting to creep forward. Luckly the track was very well taken care of and sticky so i had no problems with traction off the line!

Doug is correct...teh higher rpm you leave at with an auto tranny the softer the hit...the hardest hit you can find is off idle...on an "iffy" track I will leave at 3200 rpm sometimes...

Good luck with your build...let us know how it turns out...btw, you might as well start looking for a Dana 44 rear end now...the 36 won't last long behind a 383...mine lasted 6 months with a stock motor making 275 to the wheels on Sumi street tires...one good hook was all it took...lol...

Sounds like you are enjoying the car. It looks sharp. You'll find ways to make it quicker over time.

I agree. Once you start to make it quicker you will never stop.
