16" drag wheels for 01 Z06
Hi,
Need some help. I have a 2001 Z06 that i want to put a set of 16" ZR1 style wheel on with ET Streets. My question is, I bolted the wheel on and It has clearance issues, i have done the research that says i need to grind down the top ball joint a bit. However do you guys run wheel weights, ie tape weights, on the inside of the wheel still or? if so do you need to grind the spindle as well? any help would be greatly appriciated.

I am not sure about the 16" ZR1 wheel but I have 16" CCW's. With these wheels you need to just hit the top of the ball joint with a hammer to flatten out the nipple.
As far as the wheel weights go it depends on how thick they are and where they are placed on the wheel. With the thicker ones (1/4 thick) I have had them hit the caliper. If they are the thinner ones you will have no problem.

For instance, typically 16" 4th generation Camaro/Firebird V8 rims do fit on the back of C5s but I found out later on is that not all model year wheels actually fit, only the later (roughly 1997-2002?) ones usually do.
It has to do with the wheel's inner barrel shape and angles I think.
If you have 16" ZR1 style (aka: 'A-Molds') rims those were only used on later model (1996/1997) Camaro SS convertibles from the factory/dealer and should still fit your Z06, but just be cautious and open minded to the idea that those might not clear as well as the later F-body 16s do.
Also bigger/aftermarket brakes on a C5 can cause some clearance issues when trying to use 16s but I don't think that's a factor here.
