I've finally been taking my car out for some fun since getting it back together.
I took it to a 1/2 mile runway event back in Nov and ran 177 MPH on drag radials.
Then I took it to the dragstrip and tried to figure out what it was going to take as far as clutch tune to get it down the track. It ran high 9's@142 when N/A. The new little turbos add a little complexity to herding it downtrack. The clutch slipped like crazy but I managed a 9.27@153 MPH.
Then I took it to the TX Mile a few weeks ago. Squeaked out a 200 MPH run!!
Yesterday I took it back to the dragstrip with a clutch setup that didn't slip down track but was a little tight for the launch. Managed a 9.19@157.83.
Here's a thread with more details if anyone likes old Vette's getting abused!

It's an IRS. I have a Dana 60 made into an IRS...but otherwise stock configuration mounted on stock mounts. Stock trailing arms etc.

C2s are super sexy; stick shifting for 1320 feet is very sexy; both combined just wonderful ; 8s are there for sure with that trap speed

What's going on with the open hood? Is that deliberate .......or just something that happened on this run in the picture?
Not that it matters....... a 9 second run is pretty amazing in a car that looks so incredibly original.......old Corvettes that run 10s or better usually look like CRAP after all the work required to get tires under 'em......... you've done an amazing job of balancing out FAST without sacrificing PRETTY.

I started cracking the hood open with some hood latch extensions years ago when I ran a Holley Dominator carb. It would clear in "street mode" but when I went to the track I liked to add a 1" spacer and it needed a little room. Was a common practice way back when to let a little air move around as well as give hood clearance on Vette's, Chevelle's, Camaro's etc.
I had always heard stories of how bad C-2 Vette's handled at high speeds, but mine always seemed to drive fine. So I figured maybe cracking the hood was helping vent some air and might even add a little downforce at speed...but it's still pretty high going down track. Anyway, since then...I've just kept doing it at the track. I just ran 200 MPH at the TX Mile with it a few weeks ago and it handled fine...but I had hood cracked open there too. Interestingly, at the end of each run the fender flaps over the control arms are pulled outside the engine compartment. Either there's still a lot of underhood pressure or there's some low pressure in the wheelwells. Since most folks have cowl induction systems to pull high pressure air from the windshield base...I might be making it worse? Guess I need to place some little plastic strips on there to see which way the air is really going huh?
I don't need the hood clearance with the turbo setup....so next time I'll run it with it closed to see how it handles.

Once I'm past the 60' mark it pulls like an 8.50 run...so I'm getting a heck of a fun ride while banging gears. Wouldn't give that up!
Plus I can drive it anywhere. It's been on quite a few cross country 2000-2500 mile road trips.
It's only got 3.07 gears, PS is functional and it's just under 4000 Lbs at the line. In fact...I borrowed the hardtop from a buddy and still left the soft top in there...which just added more weight. Had fuel tank about 3/4 full for traction too.

Thanks. It would be a lot easier with an auto....but what fun would that be??
