Default 1st trip to the drag strip EVER...terrible

So I just came back from my first trip ever to the dragstrip. I took my 2004 Corvette Z06 that's putting out approximately 450 hp to the wheels and 430 rwtq. Toyo R888 all 4 corners. 275/40/17 up front, 305/35/18 in the rear. I was expecting, with my amateur driving, somewhere in the low 12 second to high 11 second range. I wasn't even close. It's funny and disappointing at the same time, I definitely have some work to do on my end.

I ranged between 2.242 and 2.470 for my 60 foot time, which I know is terrible. ET ranged between 12.818 to 13.981 ( I spun really bad off the line on this run). And my trap speed ranged from 112.57-114.81.

With these numbers, what's the best do you guys think this car can do with a seasoned driver behind the wheel?

Also, I would love to hear some suggestions on how to lower these times especially my 60 foot

Are you driving around the water box? How are you heating your tires?
I've no experience with R888s but from all I've read, they're pretty sticky. How much mileage?

With 60 foots like that, I don't think your trap speed is indicative about anything. Work on getting your 60' down to at least 2.0 before trying to extrapolate theoretical performance.

Drag radials needed for consistency. Too much tire spin causing the slow 60' times.

With street tires I expect it would be difficult to run high 11's.
If you are truly making 450/430 then a high 10 is possible with the right tires and an experienced manual corvette driver.

Right now you are just learning. As mentioned get a set of drag radials and learn how to do a proper burnout and you'll shave big chunks off your times.
If you video the runs we can give you tips but with street tires I probably couldn't help you.

I'm for sure going to have someone video my run next time so I can get some corrections made on here with my technique.

Agreed. If the car is truly putting 450HP to the ground, street tires will not cut it, you will need drag radials. With a trap speed of 116, a decent 60' on drag radials would be a 1.73 with an ET of 11.9x.

The HP calculator predicts that your 450 rwHP (which is around 520 at the flywheel), your car at a race weight of 3300 lbs should be capable of running a 10.96 @ 125.

I cant say what exactly your car would do but years ago my off the showroom floor stock 04 Z06 went 12.3x@117 and went 11.81@118 with drag radials and no other mods.

M/T ET STREET SS tires on the rear should have you on the way to better times. They work for me.

Don't those cars have traction control? Went racing wed night. 80% humidity. Wettish unpreped track. Ran 4 races won all 4 with traction control getting 2.1 to 2.2 60ft's and very close to 90mph(89.70)MPH in the 1/8. That's Florida for ya. lol. So don't feel to bad one guy next to me ran a 3.3871 60 ft.

Holy cow! Quite an impressive 60’ time, especially with the poor track conditions you mentioned. Obviously you had a lot of trouble hooking up good and were really overpowering the track with only 90mph in the 1/8. With that 60’ time, and with good drag slicks and a good track I expect you could be hitting in the 135-137mph range with about a 4.95-5.00 ET (and probably about a 7.9/165mph ¼). I’m guessing you’re running about 750-800HP? You’ve built quite a beast of an engine!

Yeah. I would like to say grow up but your older than me. I was just trying to state how a bone stock slow corvette runs in very bad conditions with traction control on. Sorry I posted.

Problem with Fontana is that it is a slow track. You can't compare it to other tracks. The track is up hill which hurts your et and mph. The density altitude is always high. 3500+ on a good day.

based on that mph. Which wont change too much. With a decent 60ft I would say low 12's.

Practice and seat time. That's all you need plus maybe a set of decent DR's and a line lock so you can heat up those DR's.
