Default LG Drag Spindles and 15" Race Star Wheels... Will they work?

I am about to put this combo together on a 2002 C5Z and have run into a vender that states LG said "Race Stars", like the ones pictured below, will not fit with their "LG drag spindles". I've seen this combo on so many cars that it's kind of hard to imagine that none of them were using the LG drag spindles. Can anyone confirm fitment?

[QUOTE=WildVettes;

These do not currently fit LG Drag Spindles, however we can get you some great pricing on those as well if you are looking for a more aggressive setup than the standard drag radials.

Race Stars* Someone somewhere made them work and the wheel pricing is pretty good. I may just test fit a setup at a later date if you can't find anyone with that setup.

Some lower control arm grinding necessary, I assume that's all. consider welds, or RC's they are running tons of specials and wait time is not as long as weld. Another option contact Carlyle racing, they have welds in stock.

Yes. "Race Stars".

I have, but have yet to get time to install, a new set of LG drag spindles and 15/17 Race Stars (Dark Stars). I only got concerned after reading your Vendor Post for Race Stars stating that "they" (15" I assumed) would not work with the LG spindles.

I'm aware of having to do some grinding on the oem lower control arm. But have not heard of any issues with any 15" wheel fitment beyond that.

Thanks for the info. I have most everything already.... Except time to get it all put together.

This was the response from LG.

Damien,

Race Star Wheels are NOT compatible with our drag spindles. Unlike weld wheels or billet specialties, Race Star uses a stepped barrel which will make contact with the spindle/ball joint. Unless they have a barrel design that does not step down they will not work.

I will be watching your post because I would very much like to be able to sell these as a "bundle" so I don't have to abide by MAP policies. I get killer pricing on the Race Stars.

Just make sure to check clearance before mounting them.

That's part of the reason the tires are not mounted yet. I will test fit the wheels first. Fully expecting to have to work on the lower control arms. I guess we'll see. Hopefully soon. I've just been covered up with work for sometime now.

Thanks for the info, sir.

Really wish I had to time this week/weekend to do the spindles and test fit the wheels, but it not looking good. I did go look at the backside barrel of the wheels and I don't see any "step" on these particular wheels. In fact, the only thing not completely flat was the concave ring towards the rear bead area. But that certainly doesn't pose any concern.

Any updates? Race Star just launched some redesigned forged 15x10s this week. They look to be straight barrels.

Yes. Installed LG drags this weekend and started grinding. The Race Stars are not unlike any other 15" wheel that can be installed, as far as my research goes. The voodo seems to be in how MUCH grinding needs to be done. I have one measured point of reference I'm working with for my situation.....as per how much LCA material to remove, that is. Would like to compare notes with anyone else. The wheels are on. Did a trip around the neighborhood and even a couple of test digs. BTW, traction difference is amazing coming from 19" Hankook Evos. I still have a little more tweaking (grinding/ride height)

Wheel weights on the inside lip (clip on) and stick on weights on the beveled part of the wheel just behind the spokes. It's tight, but they clear. Some wheels require spacers to clear the face of the caliper from the backsides of the spokes. So....

Oh. No grinding on the face of the OEM C5Z calipers. Ribs on the calipers are all but gone....maybe 1/16" of them left behind. Top and bottem corners of calipers had to be "messaged"...mostly the bottem corners

According to everything I've been able to find/read, these are all the normal modifications, on top of installing LG drag spindles, to installing any 15" rear wheel.

Hi Guys,

Our Drag spindles are on every Drag racing record breaking Corvette as far as we know.

Carlyle uses our spindles but has his own brake kit.

we have our Drag rear rotors made for us in the USA. We modify a C5 Rear brake to fit.

We understand that some 15" wheels require a spacer but the Weld wheels do not.

For a C5 and C6, the Lower Rear A arm has to be modified. We do that here if you don't want to get it done by yourself.

The 15" package on the C5 and C6 PLUS the C7 has allowed every corvette to accomplish the formerly impossible goals.

On the C7, to run a 15" Drag Slick you must also get our Steel A arm that we designed to miss the wheel totally. We Build them in house.

We are glad that we could help with the Drag Community, since we are mostly known for our Road Racing successes.

But Racing is a game of "Inches and Ounces" no matter if it is Road Racing or Drag Racing. AND LG Motorsports is all about Inches and Ounces!!

thanks gang.

Lou,
The OP has a write up on the Race Stars and it looks like they don't require any more work than the welds. I will research some brakes but will have Race Star Spindle bundles out shortly with a write up on how to make them work. I will have to look at offsets on the base C6 cars but the C5 and C6Z should require exactly the same offset in the rear so I know for sure Race Star will work on both those applications. I have every generation model and trim here at the shop so I may just order some stuff to see if it will work on the base as well. They just launched a 15" forged line as well so we will play with it.

I am looking forward to moving some more product for you guys.

We are trying to get ahead of the orders so we will have them in stock.

we are about 10 Car sets ahead the orders on the C7 A arms now.

We are also building our own C7 so I can hit the drag strip and see what my 40 years of racing and going fast can do in 1320 feet!!

Should be fun. We are looking for about 1400-1500 hp and we know we can do that.

See you all at the races. AND happy July 4th

OH YEAH, We have lowered the C7 A arm pricing. We get the billet Ball joint mounts mass produced now so our price on our fabricated Lower A arms is much lower now.

thanks

I look forward to seeing it. I am also excited about the new track and will look into membership at the country club. We took a long look at Spring Mountain but it is still a pretty long drive for us to get there. The plan is a possible move to Texas in the next few years so that would be perfect.

Happy 4th

Lou,
Would be cool if you built a lower control arm for the C5/C6 that would work with your drag spindles and incorporate an axle loop.
