Hoosier DR2's vs ET Street R's Need Help Deciding!
Which tire have you guys had good luck with? I'm torn between the two. The size will be 275/40/17 and will be going on a manual trans car. Cam only ls3. Looking for the tire that will be best at the track. I would prefer to run a BP tire for the track, but I know there are no options at 26". Car doesnt make enough power for 28" BP tires.

I think a Hoosier 28x10r17 slick would be the way to go. Since you are a stick you want a soft side wall. The Hoosier 28 slick are not actually 28. they are more like 27.5 ro 27.8 I run that on my stock ls3 auto with great results. I guess also depends on the track you go to. My track has about the same traction as the street.

I do also agree that the 28" will not work optimally for your setup. Your standard gearing and lack of power will provide less than optimal results on the launch as well as the big end.

Yeah thats my plan. Im on coilovers so I can raise the rear to keep the slicks from rubbing. Thanks

if you can get away with a drag radial then what would be a great option. Where do you plan on racing? A shorter tire will not help if you can't get it to hook. I race at a track with basically no traction. So I have no choice but to run a full slick.

Well we're pretty much down to only one 1/4mi track in Southern CA (Fontana). The prep is usually not that great. Sometimes you get lucky on a test and tune day and theyll lay some rubber and vht but on most street legal days it aint great. Im trying to hook 900rwhp as well which can be challenging. I run C6Z brakes which limits my rear wheels to no smaller than 17".

Also the car is really setup for autox and stuff. The coilovers and fat sway bars make the car pretty stiff and even though I can soften up the rear shocks I thought maybe a tall bias ply tire can work as part of the suspension and help the car squat on launch.
Thats another thing too, seeing if a sifter or stiffer rear setting will work with 28" bias ply slicks.

Also if you are going tubeless which we all have. Make sure you have steel valve stems, and have them mounted with hairspray too.

Make sure you post your results. So far the guys I know have tried them have liked them, but Don't like the fact they have to raise the rear or they rub the liner. Remember they grow. So if you can test them on the street to make sure they are not rubbing.
